A great game, but I feel like the decided is an unnecessary gimmick that detracts from learning.

I played Chalk & Chuckles: Elementary Chemistry, Periodic Table Game with two kids—one who has taken chemistry at school, and the other who has very little formal chemistry instruction. I wasn’t sure if the younger one would be able to play the main game, so I had them start by putting together the Periodic Table puzzle, then told them they could take pictures of it to refer back to for the guessing game.The guessing game portion comes in two formats: the yellow “Guess Who” cards give three clues, and the other players guess which element matches the clues; and the red stick “Don’t Say It” cards are like Taboo, in which the lead player describes the element without mentioning three key descriptive words. We found that our youngest player did not know enough to read the red cards, even with the provided “secret” clues, so we made an exception that he would only choose to present the yellow cards.All of us had fun with this puzzle and game, and also learned quite a bit. This is an educational game that will be replayed in our home, at least until we’ve memorized all the answers. I do wish it came with more questions. It seems like all the elements could have been covered, and by both red and yellow sticks for each one! But we are going to learn some of the elements really well!

I work with a bunch of science types in the environmental field. We have a diverse background, but we're all pretty much nerds. I've been trying to help with overall morale around the office, so I've started silly little games and contests. This is perfect for my crowd.You get exactly what's described. It's all contained in a can about the size of a Campbell's Chunky Soup can. The lid pulls off and the spinner is embedded on top. You get a decoder to use for hints on some. The rest of the pieces are the "sticks" with the elements and trivia on them. Some are pretty easy and basic, others not so much. The spinner will land on yellow or red, and you pull accordingly. You will want to go through your sticks and make sure that a yellow or red bit is facing up. Otherwise, you're fumbling to find what you need.Really cool idea, and yes, a good way to learn if you have a classroom.

I personally have always loved science and been fascinated with it. I wanted to help create that curiosity for it within my grandchildren if they have the interest.This game allows them to have some fun and learn along the way. This is for older children, ages 8+ but never too early to start driving the interest with cool experiments, etc. Children are sponges and I would rather feel their heads with knowledge about the world we live in then let them vegetate all day watch on iPad or TV.I appreciate you taking the time to read this. All in all, I really like this approach and am trying to let them take it in small doses.
