Ugly Stik Dock Runner Spinning Reel and Fishing Rod Combo

The Good: This rod punches well above its weight class. Perfect for creek fishing, lake fishing, and even inshore fishing. I've landed bluegill, good crappie, largemouth bass, black drum, gaspergou, blue cats, channel cats, and a couple of 6+ lb gar on the rod. More sensitive than you'd think. Casts surprisingly well for its length. Fits in a backpack and easy to transport in and around trees without getting hung up. The Bad: The reel that came with it needed replacement after 2 trips and a few decent fish. The drag knob came off and sank like a rock. Replaced it with a $20 2000 reel which performs infinitely better.

I got this combo as a “truck rod”, something to use when on my way home from work. I fell in love with it, and it has quickly become my primary rod, especially for panfish. I have caught catfish, carp, and more bluegill than I can count. Due to its small size, it is a perfect rod for kids, or smaller adults. It’s light weight, casts well, and would make a great canoe rod, truck rod, or just a cheap backup. Due to its size, it can be a bit more difficult to set the hook if there is slack in the line, but after a quick learning curve, it sets wonderful. I have combos that cost 10x+ what this one did, but this has quickly become my favorite. Perfect for casting into brushy areas where my larger rods would get tangled, yet still able to handle BIG fish. Cannot recommend this combo enough!

Ugly stick makes a great rod. Been using ugly sticks since I was a kid and that's why I purchased these two combos for my boys. The quality is just as good as it was in the 90s. Still a great deal too.

This is a steal for a great little fishing rod and an okay reel. Great price for the rod, and having a spinning reel is pretty cool even if the reel itself is a bit rough. The rod is the perfect size for kids, or for if you want something small to take in a kayak, or as an in-a-pinch ice fishing pole. I've always liked the durability of Ugly Stick rods, and having one in this convenient size is a huge win at this price. Five stars for the pole. The spinning reel is sub-par. I'd give it 2 stars alone. The snap-close of the bail was REALLY stiff. Terrible for kids just learning how to use a spinning reel. I took a screwdriver to it and loosened the screws on both sides of the bail and that helped a lot. I think it's always going to be a little bit tricky though, especially if your reel rotation is right before the catch-point and you don't have any spin momentum to help close the bail. That aside, I swapped out the stock reel for an $11 Zebco casting reel, and my 5 year old spent the evening practicing his casts. Couldn't be happier with the pole and "free" spinning reel it came with. ;)

5 star cuz I got what I expected. I already knew they lower tier quality. But yet ugly stick quality, I was aware of how crappy a cheap reel can be. Even rod, but still I ordered it. And they came packaged not so well. But in good shape. I could see why they arrive broken. There isn't any packaging material inside the box. That being said it could easily be damaged by being tossed around..the real handles come slightly unscrewed so they can be folded because it's the type of real handle that folds in when it's unscrewed enough so I started wondering about how many reviews were posted by people saying the rods were broken or the reels were broken and essentially they were just all unscrewed if you fished for a long time never service reels, you know how they come apart and how to put them back together so I could see a lot of people saying that they came broken but really they just fell apart in the box, because one of the reels I got today, had a very loose spinning component where the half circular rod is connected that flips over the line. I had to pop the top off by unscrewing the line spool, after that I tightened the loose components. And now they sound and both act accordingly. Iv used cheap poles before, especially the old slingshot line by zebco. I could stand with the best of them with that pole and not even be worried. Sometime cheap actually works surprisingly well. And again, just take care of them, inspect them, tighten any loose components and there you go. As long as you treat it with respect it might last a while. Maybe not as long as the 7 yrs iv got out of the zebco slingshot. And that about 3 days a fishing a week. Sometimes every once in a while I'll land a 30 lb carp on a 10 lb line....so yes the zebco slingshot held it's own. As I expect these 2. If they break during ice fishing I'll come back and edit my review for a possible weak pole construction. Good luck, happy fishing.

Great rod, I use the larger 6’ Ugly stik combo and wanted this one as an easy one to use on the go for creek fishing. It’s super light and provides a very satisfying fight when reeling in any fish. I use a very light braided line and it makes any little bluegill or trout feel like a PB. I would definitely recommend it to anyone fishing for smaller fish or just wanted something they can bring with them on the fly. I keep it in my vehicle and so if I’m ever out at a park and I see a body of water with fish I’m not wishing I brought a rod as I now always have one ready. I’ve caught plenty of blue gill, trout, creek chubs and even some bullheads in this rod so far.

I use these salt and fresh water awesome for wooded areas or hard to cast spots you won’t be disappointed

I love this little pole and it's definitely fun to catch a decent fish on it.

I am very satisfied with this fishing rod and reel combo. The rod is lightweight, easy to handle, and performs well for shore and dock fishing. I have already caught several fish with it, and the reel works smoothly. It is a great option for beginners and casual anglers. The only downside is the fishing line that comes pre-spooled on the reel. It is not very strong and broke easily during use. I replaced it with a better-quality nylon line, and the setup works much better now. Overall, a good value-for-money fishing combo. I recommend changing the included line before serious fishing.

Real short rod for bait fishing off the boat and cast pretty good for the length not too stiff or flexy its just right imo

I highly recommend this for a toddlers firts rod. I was looking for a fishing rod for my 3 year old son and in my search i saw a video on youtube of kids fishing with this rod. I know it might not be the specific purpose it was made for but it lends itself perfectly for a childs fishing rod. My boy loves it and it also withstands the beating only a first time angler can give. He also gets lots of compliments on it. Its quite a cool looking fishing rod.
