Kerasilk Anti-Dandruff Shampoo, For Oily Scalp, Rebalances & Purifies, Vegan

If you suffer with dandruff, this is the shampoo for you. Really gentle and does the job brilliantly

This anti-dandruff shampoo is, in my opinion, best used as an 'ongoing maintenance' rather than as a 'relief from current dandruff'. It has the right ingredients but somehow seems 'more gentle' than my normal medicated shampoo. It leaves my hair and head feeling pretty good, but I do need to use something 'stronger' as part of an ongoing routine, else my head does begin to itch again. I think it's great that it has vegan credentials. However, the premium nature of this shampoo seems a little overstated to me, but it's perfectly okay. I do think, though, that the current price tag (£26 for a 250ml bottle) is way too high - to the point I'd almost consider putting it to 2 stars. It is saved by the fact you don't need to use much to get a reasonable clean, which effectively makes a 'per use' cost a little lower. Do note, this doesn't lather hugely, but lather is not an essential part of shampooing and is often a result of the unnecessary addition of surfactants like SLS, which do not really contribute to the function of the shampoo.

Most anti-dandruff shampoos are somewhat medicinal, and don't always leave your hair in the best shape as they focus on shifting the dandruff. This shampoo contains the same active ingredient (Piroctone olamine) as many rivals, which is an anti-fungal agent which attacks the fungus which causes dandruff, but it's in a more conventional, elegant formula which is much more like a regular shampoo and also contains interesting ingredients (silk which is apparently vegan-derived, and ectoin, which I hadn't heard of before but seems to be present as a barrier ingredient in many skin products, so is probably soothing for the scalp). I found the shampoo lathered up well into a rich lather, I didn't need a lot. I have a greasy scalp and it cleansed it effectively without stripping, and my scalp felt refreshed and my hair was left smooth and soft, though perhaps not quite as shiny as some shampoos I've used. It has a nice smell - very sweet with a slight hint of fruit. I was very impressed with the anti-dandruff part - after only two uses, I noticed a very significant reduction in dandruff, I'd say it's about 95% better already. Essentially this is a very effective anti-dandruff shampoo that doesn't feel like one - it's very luxurious and leaves your hair in great shape whilst also tackling dandruff. There's no getting away from the fact it's also very, very expensive - £26 for a 250ml bottle is serious money, hence I cannot award a full 5 stars. I do think it will last a long time, but that's still a lot. It does do what it promises, however, so if you like a luxurious shampoo but suffer with dandruff, it delivers on its promises.

I also recently tested the Kerasilk Sensitive shampoo. This anti-dandruff shampoo offers similar results, with many of the same ingredients. The main difference is that this shampoo is perfumed, whereas the sensitive shampoo is fragrance-free. I must admit, my scalp isn’t often sensitive enough to warrant a shampoo as gentle as the sensitive Kerasilk shampoo, so I’ve really enjoyed the luxury fragrance from this one. It comes out of the bottle as a clear liquid that is thick enough to not run off your hand too easily. It has the same signature Kerasilk fragrance of other Kerasilk products I've previously used, which is hard to describe, but smells like an expensive exotic perfume you might buy from a department store. My husband has been using this more than me, as he does suffer from dandruff, whereas I don’t. For him, the results have been really effective. I’ve not noticed a single flake of dandruff anywhere in his hair or on his shoulders since he switched to this. I had already recently switched to using shampoos made without sulphates or silicones after a friend bought me such a shampoo and conditioner as a birthday present. After an initial detox period, where they felt like they made my hair look greasy much sooner than I would have liked, my hair started looking and feeling great. I can now easily go 4 days in between washes without it ever looking greasy. A more naturally made shampoo like this does cost more, whichever brand you buy. I think this one is priced at about the same level as my usual brand, but actually lathers up much better, without making my hair feel matted before I can get some conditioner onto it. However, I would like the fragrance of this shampoo to be stronger and longer lasting. It smells gorgeous while I’m using it, but then I don’t smell it again once I’m out of the shower.

I can’t use most shampoos because of allergies, but loved the ingredient list on this one. Such a lovely anti-dandruff shampoo that definitely didn’t feel harsh or stripping. Much gentler and more salon-like in how it left my hair. Properly cleansing, but without that dry, squeaky, over-washed feeling. Love that it doesn’t just focus on removing flakes, it also looks after the scalp and the hair at the same time. The formula includes piroctone olamine, which is the ingredient doing the anti-dandruff work, but it is also paired with extras like ectoin, zinc PCA and panthenol. Most importantly for me, it is formulated without silicones, sulphates, mineral oils and dyes. The scent is pleasant too. Sort of a clean, fresh, floral haircare smell. A very good premium shampoo if you want something that tackles dandruff and oiliness without feeling harsh, basic or medicinal. It is definitely more expensive than an ordinary anti-dandruff shampoo, but for me worth the money.

The scent was absolutely amazing, such a lovely fragrance! I’m not sure why, but after washing, the smell doesn’t actually stay in your hair at all. After using it for a while, I did notice it reduces dandruff slightly, but personally, it left my roots feeling quite greasy. This isn’t the first anti-dandruff shampoo I’ve tried that does this, unfortunately. Based on my experience, I wouldn’t really recommend it. That said, the packaging and the initial scent inside the box are perfect, 10 out of 10 for those! It’s just a shame the performance doesn’t match the quality of the presentation.

After several uses, I didn't notice any improvement. On the contrary, my scalp started to itch more. The shampoo rinses out very poorly, and it doesn't make a foam at all. I have to use it twice because the first time it doesn't even foam. Very expensive for such a volume. The only positive is that it smells incredible, like candy, which is unusual for this type of shampoo. And the smell lasts for two days.

Ja, das Shampoo ist nicht günstig aber mir hat's geholfen! Ich hatte mit Hautjuckreiz (Kopfhaut) ständiges jucken. Haare gewaschen (unendlich viele Shampoos getestet!) und....das hat nichts gebracht. Wehe die Kopfhaut hat Wärme abbekommen (vom Kuschelkissen oder einer warmen Mütze - Saison unabhängig!) dann ging's los. Ich habe die Kopfhaut ziemlich zekrazt, zum Beispiel nachts während des Schlafens. Völlig verrückt. Dann nach langer Zeit passierte ein Wunder. Mein Mann hat aus dem Friseursalon eine Probe mitgenommen...ich habe es getestet und....es juckte nichts mehr! Das war ein grandioses Erlebnis. Ich benutze das Produkt immer noch. Nicht jedes Mal, wenn ich Haare wasche (jeden 2,3 Tag) aber immer und immer wieder. Das Shampoo hat im gewissen Sinne mein Leben zum Positiven verändert 👍🏻
