Hail the conquering hippos! Burl Ives, Robert Morley and Paul Lynde lend their voices to this phantasmagoric animated movie blending dazzling colors, eye-popping visuals and catchy tunes. Summoned to rid the harbor of sharks, the hippos of Zanzibar rise to the challenge. But once their mission's completed, the Sultan's hypocritical minister hunts them all down until only little Hugo remains. Escaping to nearby Dar es Salaam, he's hidden by the local children. But when the adults turn him in for eating their crops, his friends must find a way to save Hugo before the minister determines his fate. Produced by Emmy® and Peabody Award winner Robert Halmi and featuring the singing voices of Marie and Jimmy Osmond, Hugo the Hippo is a big fat lovable adventure the whole family will enjoy!

... might be a region 1 video but it played fine on my UK DVD player
I was worried that it might be a region 1 video but it played fine on my UK DVD player.Just as good as I remember it from my youth in the 70's. You can tell, with all its wacky psychedelic splendour, it was heavily influenced byGeorge Dunning's 'Yellow Submarine' but, in spite of that, it manages to tug at your heart strings. Paul Lynde of Penelope Pitstop/Hooded Claw fame is great as the villainous vizier Aban-Khan and its packed with tunes that will have you humming along. As Marie Osmond sings in the movie, "I love the Hippo"

Surprise extra Christmas gift
Bought this as a surprise extra gift at Christmas for 40 year old son who loved it as a child. He couldn't believe it when it was delivered directly to him. He had a good nostalgic wallow in it on Christmas Day and enjoyed the many memories that came with it!!

I grew up with a copy of this film on VHS that was lost to the sands of time. I was so happy to find a version of it on DVD after all this time.Hugo the Hippo is a stunning film. Very of its time, and very beautifully animated. More beautiful than I remember. I absolutely recommend any fan of old animation pick this up and have a view of it.

Yay!
My now adult grandchildren grew up with this movie (VHS) and it has taken us years to find a DVD! So happy as now the great-grandchildren can share their parents appreciation of this tale.
