Calligraphy Workbook for Beginners [Peters, Maureen] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Calligraphy Workbook for Beginners Review: Excellent choice for aspiring calligraphers - I now own several books on calligraphy, brush lettering, etc. I was quite pleased with this one, because: (1) The majority of the book (about the first 148 pages) focuses on teaching alphabets. (2) There are several alphabets. I counted six, including Unical, Gothic, Foundational, Italic, etc. These are the ones that are most often sought. (3) There is EXTENSIVE instruction in each alphabet, with multiple clear photos that are large enough to clearly show the strokes that make up the letter. They are enumerated to show the order in which they are made. There is additional and detailed instruction for each alphabet in diagrams, text, etc. I like that the photos show the letters being made with the pen. Additionally the diagrams and text explain the nature of the letter, the shapes of the letters, etc. This is not a book that you write in. I like that because the workbook-style books often have a lot of blank space. I find it difficult to hold the book open in such a way as to write in it and the paper often is not well suited to maintaining the pen. There are a limited number of projects in the back, such as a holiday greeting card, and one could use this text to get the idea of how to create other projects of one's choosing. However, I generally do not find the project section of various books to be all that useful for me, so I appreciate that this section is minimal in this book. There is sufficient information about pens, pen maintenance, lined practice paper, etc. in the front of the book, though I appreciate that this is neither cutsey nor extensive, because I prefer to look at the ratings on whatever pens are currently being sold and available in my area. This is a straight to the point and pleasing book that teaches the mechanics of several lettering styles and it is very easy to learn and follow, leaving the reader only with the task of practicing in order to develop skill. This would be among my top choices for books and perhaps the one I would choose if I could have only one book. I think it is a purchase that readers will not regret. Review: Calligraphy Workbook - I love Calligraphy... a lady was watching me and offered me a job doing wedding invitations because she thought I had known Calligraphy for years!! It is SO much fun... all it takes is patience, and to love what you're doing. The workbook is a big help!!

Well put together
It's a Christmas gift for a 13 year old, but would be more than adequate for an adult. Includes instructions and practice spaces. Nicely done.

Many different styles
Exactly what I was looking for to learn calligraphy. It has easy lettering charts for a few different styles written out and instructions on how to make your own practice paper if you don't have your own. It provides a few practice pages in the back but I'd recommend getting a separate practice notebook. Wonderfully detailed and easy to follow!

Nice book
I really like the step by step of making each letter in the different fonts and it's not cheaply made. However, I could have did without the projects section as I felt it was unnecessary. I am trying to learn to write not do projects. Author could have had 2 more font styles in place of that section and more practice sheets at the end and in between each font style.

Omg great book
I just started calligraphy & purchased several books BUT. This one has it all .. several dif types or styles and even Celtic knotwork (sp) , leaves etc. but best part is itโs like having a video. Itโs so detailed for your strokes& holding your pen. It doesnโt have practice paper but just put clear tracing paper over it or just buy paperโฆ. Who cares as long as it teaches you ..itโs like having a teacher with u .. โค๏ธ it

A definite accessory if starting out in calligraphy. It certainly helps in how to tackle the scripts and lettering doing each stroke to achieve the desired effect. The practice pages are useful too. Clear images and useful instructions. The visual of nib type makes it all the more real in how to achieve the best rendition of the letter tackled. ๐
