Solid and reliable
I bought this diode laser cutter almost a year ago when it went on sale, and have had a lot of fun with it since. There is some assembly required, but the instructions could not be any clearer. Care should be taken to ensure that the frame is square and that the two y-axis belts are in sync. This is done by moving and holding the x-carriage flush with the end of the machine before you tighten the coupler on the y-axis drive rod.Once assembled, the free software will get you started very quickly. There are many sample projects available, and xTool thoughtfully included a pack of sample materials to try. My wife is not usually interested in my maker projects, but she quickly came up with a string of ideas that we could use it for. It has been a lot of fun, and given us another joint hobby.I had one small issue when I came to cut a 'finger-joint' box and discovered that the pieces would not fit together well at right angles. I quickly determined that the laser was not cutting absolutely perpendicular to the work, so I emailed support with a video and description and they sent me a replacement laser module within a few days, completely hassle-free. The replacement has been perfect. The customer service team has been very responsive and helpful every time I have contacted them.I since bought the extension kit and it has opened up even more possibilities for us. Two of our friends have also bought an xTool D1 after seeing ours in action, and they both seem very happy with theirs too.

Works so well... I bought a third!
This is my third xTool laser, and it has raised the capability of what my little business can produce; making my pint glasses take half the time to make and custom wood signs cut so much more consistently! I've been using lasers, both professionally and personally, for about eight years, and this is by far the most well built hobby laser I have used. xTool has done listened carefully since I bought my first D1 a year ago and has made huge improvements; the wiring harness is better fit to the machine, the setup directions come in a very detailed packet, they've added limit switches to the Pro, and the laser module shield comes ready to install air assist. There is a bit of a learning curve on the XCS software, but for a proprietary product, it is leagues ahead in terms of functionality compared to most beginner laser software and they are continuing to improve it with customer feedback! I personally prefer to use Lightburn for the enhanced control but XCS is a great stepping stone to get users comfortable with how the laser works. I have gotten to watch the D1 community grow on Facebook, and while the negative remarks will always gain traction, xTool has really hit the nail on the head with the D1 Pro 20W rotary bundle and their customer service. If you ever need any help, come find me and a huge resource of other users in the xTool D-series Official Group on Facebook!

Extremely well packaged good customer service
Update on my first review: so I went through the customer service trouble shooting-they diagnosed a bad laser module… and sent me a new. Here where we pick up. So I began having the same issues a short time later with the new module shutting down on power hungry jobs (high power slow speed-engraving) well after my own troubleshooting I determined the power block was at fault. So what I did was purchase a jesverty 30v 10a desktop power supply for 55$ on Amazon. Spliced the Xtool power chord to some banana clips and voila runs full job without shutting down. Laser is great power chord is Chinese garbage. The desktop power supply provided good stable power. Make sure you know how to use it so you don’t fry your laser. I have mine set to 25v and 6A (max). Plenty of YouTube videos on using these. So I don't usually do a review, but I felt this one deserves a review. On arrival as other have said the packaging is pretty incredible it’s appears laser cut to perfectly fit every piece. Assembly is pretty straight forward, there are high quality pictures and mostly clear directions. With a little bit of compare and contrast I would say a confident beginner “assembler” can put together in an hour or so. One ding though in the instructions… if you have air assist there is a tiny plastic clear cover over the hole where the 90° elbow screws in on the laser. This cover is never mentioned anywhere, it definitely threw me off for a bit figuring out why I couldn’t thread the elbow onto the laser but it only made sense it needed removed. So you’ll need a sharp knife or razor blade to get under neath the clear adhesive cover to pull it off, this could definitely be fixed up a little to match the beauty and easy of the rest of the assembly. I have no experience with other lasers and minimal design software experience. Within 10 minutes of assembly I was on my way to engraving. XCS is very intuitive software with a little time beforehand spent on YouTube or Xtool. Some old cardboard made for some easy practice runs. Now the good/bad/ugly… after building some confidence I started some bigger jobs in the 40+minute range. I found the laser would quit mid job… having no experience I spent many hours scouring YouTube and assumed I had something setup wrong, well it would seem there is and issue with some of the 20w laser heads because Xtool has a dedicated support page just troubleshooting “job completed” but not really error. I followed all troubleshooting steps spent some more hours and finally reached out to Xtool via email. I was contacted with in a couple hours requesting a video of the error which means I had to do it again which only happens after about 30 mins. This was a bit frustrating as I had just spent two days ruining work pieces and now had to do it again. So I set up my phone recorded a 35 minute video, captured the error then had to snip and compress the video into a file size I could email to them. After emailing the video they immediately emailed me back stating they would send a new laser module due to a faulty module. This back and forth was about two days, and I had the new laser in about 4 days. Customer service was great! I was very happy with the fix. So far no issues. So yes it sucks I got a broke one but I was so happy they fixed the problem so quickly with relatively little hassle. All in all I probably have 50 hours of run time and love the machine for my first laser engraver. Customer service was great 👍🏻 thanks Xtool!
