The "Box of Doom" arrived, now, my rats are super,duper intelligent bags of disease and fleas, bear this in mind.I previously used a break their necks kind of baited trap thing, it caught rats BUT they soon learned to avoid it.So, this box was purchased.Because all my rats have Uni degrees I decided to put it in situ without any rat bait in it for 24 hours as to not spook them by something new arriving in their path..All went as planned and they went in and out , squeezing their fat filthy bellies in with ease. Day 2 I baited it with those pink block thingies, it takes 5 of them with ease.Night time came and you could hear the sound of Supa rat eating himself into an early grave-BRILLIANT.In fact ;one's at it right now! It took minutes to assemble,I wore surgeon type gloves so as to not leave a human scent,the ground anchors work but as added protection I have put a heavy piece of slate on top this also makes the entrance hole seem more like a tunnel.Reading reviews about the screw rusting I have covered the top of it in Blu Tac.Just to add, hang up the allen key somewhere so it doesn't get misplaced if I hadn't it would be lost by now !.So far it all seems to be doing what it should.The dogs cant get to it, the birds have no reason to want to get to it and hopefully these foul things will die.Living on the edge of woodland I do realise rats are around, but living under my shed and raiding bird feeders and compost bins is not acceptable.

Well it is strong, its made of metal and is nice and shiny, but, I cant say as yet how long it will stay that way if it is left outside for too long, i shouldn't expect it to last that long. It does the job and keeps the bait fresh and dry and wont blow away in the wind due to the anchors that are provided. Saying all that, it is a better choice as far as it being slightly more rugged than the plastic versions depending on where you want to use it.

I did'nt write a review right away as l wanted to see how the bait trap worked, & true to the other reviews it is very good,it has an allen key,so its easy to open & close, l put it at the side of my house with the entry whole to the house, the only thing l did do was to raise it up off the floor a bit so if it rains heavy it wont get water logged & soggy up all the bait,it has worked a treat, for the first few days all the bait had been eaten,gradually to only being picked at, I am looking every day still & only put a small amount in just in case, also l use gloves everytime l pick it up/or add more bait, as you dont want to put your scent all over it,overall a very good buy, would reccomend, does what it says !

Fantastic unit, I have 12 dogs and live in Spain where 'Campo rats' are commonplace, because of all the fruit grown here. This plus Rentokil blocks and the rats are dropping like flies !!! Keep replacing blocks regularly and problem under control. We can never hope to eradicate rats completely, but wee now never see what was a more than common daily sight to us. So know it's working. Plus, and a BIG PLUS, our dogs are 100% safe. Weather proof and rustproof as well as dog and cat proof. I am now one happy bunny. Thank you.

Although the trap is metal, the internals are plastic, to support the metal bait holder and compartmentalise the trap. It may be tough plastic but its still plastic. Will see what happens to the trap, and hopefully the pesky rats, won't eat the plastic.

This is an excellent bait box and I have evidence of much munching having gone on inside it. However, despite the strong metal box which looks like new despite having been out all winter, the little screw that holds the top on, immediately went rusty. It seems a shame that the manufacturer spoiled the excellence of this product with a cheap screw. The holes are not very big for the rodents to get into it and I doubt that some hefty adult rats would be able to get in to reach the poison. Some rats reach enormous proportions.

I have had one of these for many years and bought two more this year after we had an invasion of rats in the garden they last very well and if you position them in the right place usually against a wall the rats will go in them. use a good rat bait and success is guaranteed.
