High Victorian Playing Cards

Great cards. This company always has really cool designs for their cards. I bought it as a new set for a trip my husband and I went on so we could play something while sitting in the airport and vice versa. I was drawn to the old style and design. The cards are slick and glide smoothly. I’ll probably buy another once this set wears out.

I was looking for a really stunning deck of cards, with something unique on ALL the cards, not just the face cards. This is it! Yes, the backs are just black and white. But it's kind of nice, because they look sort of "normal" until you start playing with them, and see the AMAZING designs on each and every card. Kind of a stealth luxury, if you ask me. Which is the best kind. The only con I can see is that they're soooo slippery that they fall off the table easily! My son and I were playing a stealth game of cribbage last night (stealth because he was supposed to go to bed and we didn't want my husband to hear us....lol) so we played in whispers but fell into splits of giggles whenever the cards fell off the table and slid/slooped onto the floor. We had to pick them up a few times. This is of course a plus, because they shuffle beautifully. Oh, and it seems to be my lucky deck. So glad I got this! Card games have an extra panache now. At the same time, I got a deck of Nouveau Bourgogne cards, thinking they might be even prettier. They do have a more colorful card back. And on the inside, they are pretty, but they are a bit more standard. I find I prefer the High Victorians. :) Get these and enjoy your card games!

Well worth the money

These are among the most detailed and beautiful cards i've ever seen come out of Theory 11, the design studio really took it over the top with these and you and see it without even opening the box. However that's what keeps it from quite being perfect, at least to me: the sheer business and intricacy of the design makes it hard for me to want to play a game with these because they're too pretty for that, yet they're also too busy to really get a good flourish in magic or cardistry because the designs just get lost in all the movement. Thus, this means that this deck just winds up sitting on my desk... That's just me though, the sheer beauty of the design work is worth combing through the cards alone i'd say.

Good stuff

Great set of very high quality cards the images and color are vibrant. Great set definitely a upgrade over a normal deck you see as your checking out of a grocery store or other shop.

I love the styles of the Victorian era, and owning quite a few books and misc items from that time I had to pick up this deck. And what can I say? The cards are beautiful and true to the art. They feel good in the hand and make me feel classier when using them. The numbered cards have no specific designs, only the royals do. This behests some people, but it doesn’t bother me. I’ve bought several decks from theory11. They make great cards

As always, the quality of a Theory 11 deck is top-notch. They are smooth as butter and fan well and feel great when dribbling or cutting. The box is beautiful. On the other hand, the cards' design seems boring. The mono colors seem faded on both the front and back. I still wish every deck included a double-sided card or another random gimmick for card tricks. Having the Jokers with the same picture with a selected card reveal would also be great.

Stunning deck of cards. Beautiful design work, with so many nice little touches. The deck is very smooth and very well printed. The outer box has a gorgeous gold and green filigree printed on a matte black that makes these colours pop vibrantly. The face cards are intricately designed, with very unique designs. Throughout the deck if you look closely you can see latin on all of the aces. I think that the two lines on latin on the ace of spades sum up this deck up very well. Acerrimus ex omnibus nostris sensibus est sensus videndi - The keenest of all our senses is the sense of sight Absque sudore et labore nullum opus perfectum est - Without sweat and toil no work is made perfect (which the designers obviously laboriously adhere to). Bravo Theory 11 what a gorgeous deck!

Je possède une petite dizaine de jeux de Theory11 et celui-ci est mon préféré. La boîte est absolument magnifique en vert comme en rouge, avec du relief et beaucoup de détails. La qualité des cartes est indiscutable. Toutes les illustrations ont été repensées pour ce jeu avec cohérence et un grand soin dans les détails. Vraiment, les figures, les as et les jokers méritent d'être admirés longuement à la loupe. Enfin, l'illustration au dos, elle aussi, est d'une grande richesse, et la loupe est indispensable pour vraiment apprécier le travail. En somme, ce jeu est une véritable œuvre d'art.
