Truman Burbank (Jim Carrey) has a seemingly idyllic lifestyle: a secure job, a loving family and a peaceful home. Yet, unbeknownst to him, his entire existence has been one long TV series, the people around him Hollywood actors, the town a massive studio set, and the whole show orchestrated by a visionary director (Ed Harris). As the truth begins to dawn on Truman, he resolves to break free, no matter the consequences for the programme's ratings. This comic fantasy was one of the most critically acclaimed mainstream movies of recent years, and was nominated for a Best Film Oscar.

Worth a watch
Love Jim Carrey in all his films. This one is not so much a comedy. But he plays it all so wellA true classic film

My copy arrived well before release date in the UK and I had a family movie night....The kids absolutely loved it and I had forgotten just how great this movie is and how relevant it remains. For me the transfer was decent if unremarkable. There were a few shots that gave me that native 4k detail and intense colour vividness I have been spoiled by but for the most part I just had the feeling that it could look a bit better. Wide shots rarely had more than middling definition. Foliage and building textures were average mostly. Close ups fared the best but again fell flat and I feel a higher average bit rate may have helped elevate this one. I guess there are limitations with different camera/lenses/film stocks maybe in use throughout. I kept thinking...I wonder what Sony could have done with this transfer??Occasionally low bit rates and some possible fltering to mask the chroma noise and wonky compression sometimes found on HDR10 base layers and that would seem to be the case here. I can't comment on Dolby Vision as I am not set up for this currently.Paramount are the least consistent studio for 4K but on the whole a decent disk IMO.

The first time I saw this movie I absolutely loved it! It's not to everyone's taste as my partner finds it somewhat boring but I could watch this a million times overThis movies looks at the life of Truman (Jim Carrey) who is about to discover just how abnormal his seemingly 'normal' life is. What he doesn't realise is that his whole life is a reality t.v show, televised and broadcast for the world to see set up by Cristof (Ed Harris) Cristof tries to control all aspects of trumans life, even removing his true love, Sylvia (Natascha McElhone) from the show and replacing her with Meryl (Laura Linney). Truman starts to discover the truth...but will he act on it.This arrived on prime the next day brand new wrapped in cellophane so could be given as a gift. The OCD perfectionist in me loves this film as everything is so perfect! From his overly upbeat wife, happy neighbours and beautiful homes. the special features on this blu ray film are-how's it going to end? The making of the Truman show part 1how's it going to end? A must watch
I recently watched "The Truman Show," and I have to say, it left quite an impression on me. The movie follows Truman Burbank, played by Jim Carrey, who lives a seemingly perfect life without knowing that he’s actually the star of a massive reality TV show. It’s set in a charming little town, and everything about his life appears idyllic—until Truman starts to notice things that just don’t add up.One of the things I appreciated most about the film is its exploration of themes like truth, reality, and personal freedom. Truman's journey of self-discovery is both intriguing and a bit heartbreaking, as he realizes that everything around him is scripted and controlled. Jim Carrey is fantastic in this role; he manages to show a range of emotions, transitioning from a carefree guy to someone who questions everything about his existence. The concept itself is quite thought-provoking. It makes you think about how much of our lives are influenced by outside forces and whether we truly know ourselves. The film mixes humor with deeper philosophical questions, keeping you engaged while also prompting you to reflect on your own life. The supporting cast, especially Ed Harris as the show's creator, adds depth to the story. Harris's character is both fascinating and unsettling, embodying the struggle between control and freedom.Overall, "The Truman Show" is a clever and heartfelt film that raises some important questions about reality and authenticity. It’s definitely worth a watch, whether you’re in the mood for something lighthearted or something that makes you think.

Not really value
As this was an old film I really wasn't sure it was worth the money to rent, the reason for renting it was my grandson wanted to see it. I honestly believe a movie of this age should be free to watch with prime membership or a minimal fee of a£1 at the most
