Basic Structures, 3rd Edition

Perfect book!
I have a background in Architecture and feel that Architectural education lacks structural emphasis. Although structural design is not generally permitted to be carried out by Architects, the importance of understanding the process and preliminary design is vital to the job in order to understand what is and what is not achievable as often Engineers are not brought on board until after planning permission has been sought. For years I have been seeking a text book that can give a novice all the tools that they require in order to pick up and understand the Structural Design process and teach (revise) the basic maths skills required on a need-to-know basis and within the book. Having read Garrisons first edition of the book Basic Structures, the additional 100 pages here were worth the purchase of this revised third edition, it takes the indispensable grounding that the first edition gave to me and furthers it with in introduction to structural design where the limited calculus and other mathematical knowledge required, is covered within the book meaning that it is accessable if like me, you have forgotten much of the maths that you have learn since GCSE. The book encourages Architects only to read specific sections and aims much of it at Engineering Undergraduates studying their first year but I believe that this is a book that should be compulsory study for Architecture courses in order to contribute to offering some of the real skills that Architects working in small practices (where Engineers are often not brought on board until late in the process) will need.
