Are the holes about an inch or bigger? I couldn’t find it on the description

They are alittle less than an inch

How do you use this to keep cats out?

I layed it out on top of the dirt and weighed the outside of it down with bricks and rocks where my plants are to prevent cats from digging/using the bathroom in my plants.
