When connecting this to a flex does it matter when the L and the N go?

Well, it depends on what you are connecting on the other end of the flex? If it's an item that needs an earth "STOP - DON'T DO IT!", If it's an item that uses more than100w and may overload your lighting circuit "STOP DON'T DO IT!", If it's double insulated and has all the safety indicators correct then the polarity is probably not important. It's up to you to check.

What is the diameter width of the switch in cms?

Hi,It's not a switch it's a Bayonet Plug for a standard 22mm bulb fitting.

Is this a converter to e27 please

It is a B22 (what we would call Large Bayonet) definitely NOT an Edison Screw fitting (E27)
