co 2006, First Printing Saw the graphics and layout of this book and had to get it. I use it for idle moments as a healthy way to exercise my mind. I don't regret buying the book, but have done about 40 or so puzzles and have found what I believe to be a few errors. Even with the errors it is still a good source for amusement. I will list the errors I found and update if I find more (maybe). You can double check me (I would - if I wasn't already me): Playthink 648: The key for the cipher is incomplete. At least in my edition, you cannot solve the simple substitution. Playthink 649: Solution states probability of at least one man getting hat back is .632. I calculated 1-(#ways none take right hat/#ways hats can be taken) = 1-(5!/6!) = 1-(120/720) = 1-.1667 = .8333 UPDATE: The Hatcheck Problem is a classic combinatorial question dealing with 'derangement'. I now know my answer using factorials is wrong, and the book does not show how it derived it's answer. This has definitely stirred my interest in learning about this problem. I believe it involves a limit, and maybe the number 'e'? When I get a grasp on it I will post it here. Playthink 656: No mention is made of Ivan until solution Once again I still think it is a great book to keep lying on the coffee table. Mistakes just show you shouldn't blindly believe any book (unless you know the writer, editor, and printer to be perfect beings).

My grandkids love this book. Some questions they figure out easily but others they really have to think. They find it fun to test me with some questions. Wonderful book for rainy days

The Big Book of Brain Games -1,000 Play Thinks of Art, Mathematics & Science is just not my cup of tea; but it could be yours. I rate this product 3-5 Stars. It all depends on what types of "games" (and I use that term cautiously because of the difficulty) you like to play. I'm retired now; and this book reminds me of work, not play. There are1,000 brain "teasers". Some of the categories are: Geometry, Graphs and Networks, Shapes and Polygons, Dissections, Numbers, Logic and Probability, Topology and Science and Perception. Actually, to me, this book is a combination of work AND school! The main thing, (other than the difficulty of the items), that I didn't like was that there isn't a place to put your answers. You will have to use a separate piece of paper. I'm sure that was done to conserve space because as is, it's one hefty book! This one is going to Goodwill; and I hope it finds a good home. If really challenging Brain Games are your forte, then you will love this book; and you will definitely get your money's worth.

We Love this book! My husband, 10 year old son and 12 year old daughter find the puzzles fun and challenging for our whole family and the kids love to bring it out for entertainment when we have family in town or take a road trip. Highly recommend!!

As a mathematician and a person who has been interested in logic problems since young age, I always look for something more than than the regular magazines full of SUDOKU and KAKURO puzzles. This is a wonderful find for me, because it covers a big variety of problems - we have a bunch of the regular technical exercises, we have logic mind-benders, we have science-related questions and much more. The problems are arranged in various sections for easy navigation and each one has approximate difficulty level shown next to it. The paper quality is also very high - feels sturdy and nice to touch. Overall, this is one of the best puzzle books I have ever had the opportunity to go through and highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in "brain games".

It's really surprising with what the author came up with. The large collection of games in many different levels is quite fun to browse through and depending how much time I have on my hands I pick a few and try to solve them. Very graphic for the most part and entertaining but it isn't a book to train your brain if that's what you are looking for.
