Cutech 40180HI 8-Inch Spiral Cutterhead Benchtop Jointer with Cast Iron Tables, 16 TC Inserts, Extra Long 24" Aluminum Fence, Additional 7-3/8" Fence Brackets, and a 10-amp Motor

I bought this jointer a few months ago and I'm very happy with it. It's easy to set up and use, and it makes smooth and accurate cuts. The spiral cutterhead is a great feature, as it reduces noise and tearout, and it's also easy to replace the blades if they get dull. The jointer is sturdy and stable, and it has a dust port that connects to my shop vac. The only downside is that the fence is a bit flimsy and hard to adjust, but it's not a deal breaker for me. This model has additional support at each end of the fence to add additional stability which helps make the aluminum fence more rigid. Overall, I think this is a great jointer for the price and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a benchtop jointer.

Joiner came well packed and had several parts pre installed at the factory. The assembly instructions were clear and unpacking and setup only took about 45 minutes. The only slightly finicky part was getting the fence to exactly 90 degrees. I ended up using the fence support brackets to fine tune it to a perfect 90 degree angle. Have run pine, rough sawn oak and maple through it and it does a beautiful job. Very smooth cuts. One board I planed had an embedded nail that I missed and chipped one of the teeth, but it was extremely easy to fix. Just loosen a screw with the supplied tool, rotate the blade and you’re back in business. Very happy with the machine and would definitely recommend it to anyone with a small shop. I like it enough that I’m now considering buying the Cutech 13” two speed spiral head thickness planer.

Easy to set up and use. Very accurate. Seems like a great piece of equipment so far.

Works great as described, easy instructions, it weighs alot making it accurate in the amount of wood being shaved and the speed settings are easy to adjust. The machine won’t move because it’s nice and heavy. Well made overall

So far so good. I fine tuned the table upon receipt and used it on 3 projects so far. Very clean and true cuts. Highly recommend at this price point.

My jointer arrived on 4/20/2023 - I have already ran several boards through it - all 2x4s roughly 5 ft in length. The results are excellent. I can only compare this to a Jet Jointer JJ-6CSX which I sold. I like the portability of this in my one car garage vs the standing jointer. the additional width compared to my old jointer is a nice welcome too, though I have yet to use it. Out of the box, the cast iron tables were well greased from factory and did not need any adjusting for my particular unit. I was happy about this because it seems like a pain to adjust the tables. Most benchtop jointers require the same level of adjusting so I am not going to ding cutech for this design. I'm sure they all come out of the same factory with different logos and colors on them. The wings that extend work well and I am happy to have them. Fence is easy to install and get to a perfect 90. Carbide spiral cutter heads seem easy to replace if one gets damaged. my previous jointer had straight blades and that required a more meticulous change. dust collection works well I have it hooked up to my wall mounted powertech dust collector. I have the 4 inch adapter kit from rockwell that I use on other tools as well. The longer fence with additional brackets to keep it at 90 is nice addition too. This is the only jointer with that system so far. I'm sure other will eventually catch on. Larger tools are nice, but when they become complicated to use it makes me want to use them less. This is plug and play. Will provide updates as I run wider longer boards through it and hardwoods.

I am not a professional carpenter/woodworker. Therefore my expectations may be a bit more relaxed. The product was well packaged and the instructions are clear. Setting the fence to exactly 90 degrees took a bit of work maybe 15 minutes. No adjustments to the tables were needed. I have only used this jointer to straighten out 2x4 because none of these are even close to being straight. I have not used this jointer on hardwood but have noticed that a wood knot kinda stops the feeding and some extra force is required. Overall after a few weeks of moderate use I am very pleased with this product. I may update my evaluation once I have used it for a longer period of time.

The 8 inch Cutech portable bench-top jointer with segmented cutterhead and cast iron tables is a very good jointer for the money. Cutech customer service and tech support have been excellent. The machine has shortcomings but the shortcomings are those of the entire class of machine; there is no jointer clearly superior to the Cutech in the contemporary short-bed bench-top jointer format and there are plenty of machines that are not as good as the Cutech in one or more respects. The infeed and outfeed tables were co-planar right out-of-the-box. it was well protected against dings during transit, but benchtop tool manufacturers need to come up with an alternative to styrofoam/polystyrene, such as custom cardboard layer pads (see pic). I find the Cutech fence alignment mechanism to be relatively crude. But I don't know of a superior fence design in this contemporary bench-top format. For a more robust and reliable fence design in a new machine, you would have to triple the price and triple the weight of the machine, or hunt down a vintage short-bed jointer, which are rare, and then you'd be giving up dust collection and easy blade changes. The Cutech jointer's noise level is also painfully high. PPE for your ears is a must. A jointer with a 3400 RPM induction motor will be like a buzzing bumblebee compared to the piercing whine of the Cutech's 12,000 RPM universal motor. (The Cutech gets quieter while it's cutting. Under zero load it screams.) But if a 200-pound $1,600 jointer with induction motor is not something you can manage financially and/or physically, or you need the jointer now and don't want to spend months looking for a vintage short-bed machine in ready-to-use condition, the Cutech offers very good price-performance for around $500, and in my experience the company has been very good to work with. There is a lot of misinformation on the internet surrounding Cutech and another company that once was acting as US distributor of the Cutech brand. Cutech's parent organization, Shinmax in Taiwan, cut ties with that distributor. Cutech did not rebrand itself under a new name. Some of the problems that have been attributed to Cutech were actually the result of that former distributor continuing to use the Cutech brand name and continuing to use the Cutech website after ties had been severed.
