Great for seed starts
These pods are great! They absorb water quickly and fit perfectly into an egg crate. Germination has been consistent and when they are dry I just pick them up and hold them in water to get moist again. That way you are not spraying water everywhere and getting fragile leaves wet. Will be buying again!

Best for starting seeds
My husband and I do a garden every year and we start all of our veggies from seeds! We use these every time and they work so well! They keep the moisture in, are very durable and I truly believe they help with the growth rate of the veggies! Love love love them!

Work well enough, but not top quality
I started most of my seeds with this product this spring. They grow quickly, but not evenly. I have to reshape them each by hand and lost a fair amount of peat in the process. Additionally, they are not quite as big as the other brand in the same size. They still work perfectly fine though & are good for their price.

Extra time and effort not worth cost savings
UPDATE: After using these to start seedlings, I can even more strongly say I will never purchase these again, no matter how little they cost. Prepping them to plant was very cumbersome (see original review below), but I also found there is too much peat in each pellet, such that the peat is so dense the little roots of the seedlings have a hard time moving deep into the pellet. The netting is way too thick, don't even think of actually planting the pellet with netting into the ground - your plant will never survive. I expected to have to pull the netting off, as even the name brand peat pellets I've used in the past required this for the plant to thrive, but the netting on these was so thick that it was difficult to rip off without crushing the whole thing. So all in all - it took 4x more effort to produce tiny, weak, shallow rooted seedlings. Definitely not worth the cost savings!======== Original Review =========Once these are hydrated, they still have mesh covering the top (see photo left). In order to prep them for seeds, I had to pinch the top of the mesh off each, one by one, which wasn’t easy or quick, and it left a rough edge and excess mesh around the top. Also the consistency of the medium is more coarse than other peat pods I’ve worked with - about like coffee grounds. The pods were a smaller diameter than I expected, but a good depth. I anticipate they will work fine for germination, but I’m going back to the brand name in the future because the prep is too much hassle.

To small for most vegetables
I don't care for these. They are small and after soaked prior to planting seed , very mishapened and I had to cut all of the tops open as they were all sealed. They probably would be ok for starting small stuff. Like lettuce but larger plants, like tomatoes fir example will quickly outgrow the small starter pellet, need more frequent misting and require transplanting to a larger container or in the ground sooner. I prefer the 50mm plant starter pellets because it gives me more time to start the plants before transplanting.

Low price comes with lots of issues…..
Just opened and used these today. Right off the bat not impressed. The “netting” didn’t wanna open to plant the seeds. I had to tear it a bit to open up to insert the seed. they also didnt really absorb and expand us much as other pods. Can’t attest to germination rates yet but will update as I learn more. Yes, they are small but I can deal with that. Not opening and having to rip is a problem though. Durability is not good.

Hot water: expands within seconds.
The media could not be loaded. I had some extremely old (might have been my ptoblem) Jiffy peat pellets that I soaked in warm water, replacing the water when it got cold. It took them about an hour to fully expand. These, even in cold water, expand within a minute, and in boiling water, in less than 15 seconds. I made the mistake of trying to hydrate 25 at once on my first go. They expanded so fast that they were fighting for space in the container I had them in. The top is a little annoying to open, but to be honest, I prefer the closed bags design over the open top of the other brads as I loose less peat as they expand this way.Good buy in my opinion, and I will probably purchase these again.
