protects all floor coverings when decorating/painting
This is the second time I have bought this protective film. It is a must really if you want to protect your floors from paint, plaster or anything really. This time the film was not as good as the time before as there were several joins in it which was not ideal. We used it on the stairs and carpets last time and this time we laid it over newly laid porcelain tiles. It went down really well and I was a bit worried about it not coming off again but it came off easily. I would recommend not doing very long stretches of it (like 10 metres) at a time because when it comes to taking it up again it is harder. Also I noticed at the points on the corners of the room where we had put down frog tape over the plastic, it made it easier to start the lifting process. It is a very good product even though it does seem very expensive, the alternative of not putting it down and getting paint or something else on your floor is just not worth the risk. One thing I would also mention is that it is much easier if you have two people putting it down, one to hold the roll and one to be down on the ground actually placing it on the floor on their knees.

tl:dr this works well.
Having subjected it to a pretty serious test I thought I'd write a review. Laid it in October, took it up in March. One main room plus stairs/landings and bits of 3 other rooms. So 5 different age/type/value carpets and some vinyl. The carpet in the main room was completely covered. I knew I'd need a bench so made an area of cardboard sandwiched between 2 layers of this stuff for a workmate & me to stand on while eg deglazing and rebuilding sash windows, mixing plaster and so on. There was a lot of work done in that room, including using the windows to access scaffolding, so heavy tools and boots etc. At one point I had to lift some of the carpet to get under the floor, and this stuff stayed attached and it all went back down fine. It's stood up remarkably well, very few punctures, and the carpets all look fine afterwards. Mostly when it came up it pulled off tiny fibres but nothing substantial. There is a slight sticky residue on hard surfaces, vinyl etc, but I can't feel anything on the carpets. After a few days the covered areas are still cleaner than uncovered bits, so I don't think there's a sticky surface to attract dust.tips: the cardboard worked really well, I'll do that again; don't use a vacuum cleaner, it lifts the plastic; when laying think about overlaps so that all sweeping can be done in one direction to avoid lifting edges with a broom; don't use every last bit of the roll, keep some back for repairs (oops!).

I’d recommend using it on flat surfaces, not the stairs.
It’s an absolute nightmare to lay, particularly on the stairs; you will need to lie down once you have fitted it.Generally seems to do a good job, very little paint got on the carpet.Added bonus was it uplifted lots of stubborn hard to reach dust, when I peeled it off the carpet. It’s recommend it for flat surfaces, but not stairs.

It does what it’s supposed to do
It works , no residue , brilliant for protection when painting walls. There is no slipping or sliding on the surface .Great for when you have workmen in . Cannot praise it enough.

Destroyed my new carpet
My Use: Protecting a newly fitted carpet from touching up the paintwork of slightly marked skirting board after the carpet had been fitted.Initially this was quite easy to put down, it is forgivable in the sense that if you've just put it down you can pull it back up and re-fit it. This was important for me because I needed to get as close to the skirting board as possible. I put this down around the perimeter of the room and after painting left if for a day before removing it. I then started to slowly pull it up and I noticed in parts it was really stuck down. I then noticed the carpet had some of its pile pulled out completely, and partially - meaning there were large amounts of half pulled out pile giving a very uneven texture on the carpet.Obviously I was livid, the carpet looked brand new and fresh a day ago and now looked like rubbish. I had to actually get down to the carpet and try and even the pile out by giving a sort of hair cut with a sharp pair of scissors but this was able to disguise the disaster a little bit. I bought the largest roll of this because the whole house requires renovation, what a waste of money. This was an expensive carpet, if you have loop pile or something like that then the product might be okay, but frankly I would say this is simply not worth the risk.Instead of wasting my money on this product, I went down to my local charity shop and bought some thick heavy curtains for £3. Cheaper, easier to use and - doesn't ruin your carpet.
