Maybe, depends on the height of your shower ceiling. It says the fixture is good for damp locations, not wet locations.

Q: what are the dimensions of the light its self? How deep does the opening need to be?

Sorry, I don't remember the exact dimensions but I believe that if you have 1+1/4" above the top of the ceiling surface, you should be able to install it. The junction box needs more room above the ceiling than the fixture itself. This fixture won't work in a 3/4" furred ceiling.
