Complete Guide to High-Fire Glazes: Glazing & Firing at Cone 10 (A Lark Ceramics Book)

Excellent book. A lot of very useful tips for potters. glazes examples illustrated very well by either tiles or beautiful pieces of work. I have already tried some glazes recipes and they work. I recommend this book every one who likes to play with glazes.

Helpful and resourceful book

Taken me a while to write this but nevertheless great product, great service all round satisfaction.

I first discovered this book whilst studying for my ceramics degree. After going through Cooper's Book of Glaze Recipes which was a required purchase (and rightly so) I went hunting for even more. I was doing my own experiments in glazes in my second year, and haunted the glaze lab to the point that the techs had to throw me out of an evening!I found this book extremely useful as it got me exploring glaze layering and ash glazes and so on. It covers both oxidation and reduction glazes, but the proportions of the ingredients go to 3 decimal places which can be a little tricky if you don't have a very expensive set of scales. What I did was round up and down and record what I'd adjusted. Which also tought me a valuable lesson: unless it's the oxides, you don't have to worry too much about a couple grams in the large batches.

This is a brilliant book with great technical information and fabulous pictures. Most importantly for me though is getting good glaze recipes that have materials that are easily found or can be adapted to what I have. I have trialled many recipes in this book and have found good success. John Britt writes well and gives good firing information. Also most helpful is where he shows the same glaze used on different types of clay, this is a critical factor in the success of any glaze so a most important point that needs to be shown.If you are wanting to learn about glazing, then this book is a must for you. If you follow through each section and test as many of the glazes as possible, and follow the different firing methods, you will at the end have a comprehensive understanding of glazes and firing.

Fantastic book for anyone wanting to learn more about glaze making. Plenty of great recipe with examples of what they should look like. Highly recommend!
