Smell Emanating Out From CD Tray Area
The DCD1700NE was easy to install. It sounds great. Runs quietly. The remote is functional, but feels rather cheap (particularly next to the brushed aluminum remote for my amp). But truly, I'm only writing a review because there is an odd, sharp smell emanating from the cd tray area (the only area open to the inside of the unit). The smell isn't one I associate with electrical burn, but I have no idea what it could be. I don't notice it unless I'm in front of the unit changing out a disc. That said, I'm seriously considering returning the unit while I still can.I spoke with Denon and after some back and forth, I merely got the names of some repair shops in my region of the U.S. The person I spoke with never actually got around to considering my questions. I can't really extrapolate much from the exchange. So I write this as I listen to the player perform flawlessly while wondering whether to return it anyway. I'd give the unit five stars for its performance thus far, but one star for the doubt it has instilled in me as a result of the smell. Perhaps that is unfair, but there it is.Edit: I decided to return the unit, but not before talking with a Denon associate using the phone number that Amazon provides when problem solving whether to return an item (a different number from the one on the Denon website).I discussed the smell issue and the associate talked with a tech about the issue. The advice was to return the item. It shouldn't smell, I'm told. So that's what I'm doing. In the meantime, I ordered another. The new player has the same smell, only this time I checked before even plugging in the unit. If the smell is from an electrical burn or malfunctioning part, then the malfunction occurred at the factory. Otherwise, I'd say the smell isn't a concern. But...I still don't feel comfortable. And I'm not sure how much knowledge credit to extend to those working at Denon who answer the phones. The fate of DCD-1700NE number two is undecided.

Excellent disc spinner
An excellent choice for those wishing to enjoy their library of CD and SACD discs. An impressive transport with a smooth loading, solid tray. Excellent DACs. This machine will faithfully deliver to your system all the information the artist and the producer intended, very musically. A moderate 12 hour burn-in period may be helpful. After that, if you are experiencing any harshness or edge, it is not from the Denon source - look further down your audio chain of amplification and speakers. This is not a machine for those wishing to stream music from the internet or wanting to deliver the music other than as a disc, such as by USB stick. Downloaded music will need to be burned to a disc. But, if you want to play CDs or SACDs, this is an excellent choice.

Great Receiver
GREAT Receiver but a bit pricey. There are other makes and models that cost more, I am not sure if those are that much improved considering the additional cost.
