No directions provided. Stays on low power 24/7 which is, of course, a waste of electricity. Now it has suddenly begun blinking, which makes it particularly useless with money thrown away on this costly item. Would give it zero stars if possible.

Works as stated, owned two for more than a year
I use this lightbulb as an alarm clock. I set it on a timer and it wakes me up at 5:30 am for my runs. I also use it to stay up studying when I have an exam coming up. It does actually make you feel more alert but maybe it's a placebo effect. I own two of them and no problems a year later. It could be slightly better design shape wise but it works for what I need. Here are some tips for how to alter your environment to wake up early and avoid going back to be. Keep any alarm clock or light across the room so you have to get up to shut them off. Have a heater/ac on a timer so your room is at a comfortable temperature when you get up and you aren't as tempted to get back in bed. Drink a small glass of water so you have to use the restroom when you wake. Do squats or push ups once you wake. Good luck people hope this helps.

It provides better lighting than any standard incandescent or LED bulb
I've been using the Definity Digital Awake & Alert bulb in a floor-standing lamp that bounces light off the ceiling in my office for a month. It provides better lighting than any standard incandescent or LED bulb. I'm narcoleptic and there's no magic cure, but I perceive added alertness when working under this light. I plan to add a second such bulb when I replace the fluorescent desk lamp above my flat-panel displays with one designed for an incandescent bulb because, as I learned when I phoned Definity and spoke to an engineer there, the effectiveness of the Awake & Alert bulb is diminished somewhat by the light projected by my three computer screens. I would also caution that the Awake & Alert bulb is bigger -- both in diameter and in length -- than an incandescent or LEC bulb. It may or may not fit in your lamp but, for me, I find that the effect of its light on my alertness is worth the cost.

Fail after a few months
Lighting Science LED brand bulbs are junk. They do not last more than a few months. I spent $180 on 6 bulbs for my kitchen BR30 can lights. They were rated at 45 years life expectancy and warranted for 5 years. They all failed within 18 months. Warranty claims and emails to Lighting Science have been ignored.
