It's ceramic with a protective seal. Should not have any lead. But it's important to rinse the fountain out and refill with fresh water daily. The fountain circulates water and pets often rinse their mouth which is good for them. I find food pieces in my fountains often. It happens. Fresh clean water is what a cat needs everyday. Don't run it without cleaning and refilling. The woman who said her cat won't use it after a few days is correct. Cats should not be forced to drink dirty water. Dirty water will harm them.

Q: Why can I not view the customer ratings?

I don't know why you can't see the ratings but this fountain does not work for the cats. Bowl too shallow, water sprayed everywhere.

I doubt it. I bought it for my cat (10 lbs) and I had to refill multiple times per day, because the pump would start making a loud noise. I could only add a small amount of water but if I didn't keep it mostly full it would make a noise I could hear 2 rooms away. I liked the appearance and material (ceramic rather than plastic) but gave up on it and threw it away after a week of trying to keep it filled to the correct level to not be loud but also not flow-over onto the floor. I have a plastic water fountain that is much better.
