how is the sound distortion on this soundbar?

I think the sound is excellent. Had a Bose soundtouch system before but think this soundbar is just as good if not better.

Connect all devices supplying signal direct to your tv then connect tv to sound bar through any of the audio outs from tv such as optical or aux

Not by using an optical cable. But, if your TV has a HDMI ARC output and you connect the soundbar to your TV using a HDMI ARC cable, then your Sky remote will work the volume. I don't currently have this particular soundbar, but our one (connected by HDMI ARC) also automatically switches on/off with the TV when using our Sky remote.

Is there any way to stop this sound bar going into auto standby (so that it remains on until turned off)?

I don't know but have to say that this isn't a problem I have. Mine doesn't go into auto standby at all
