With some of the bad reviews, I was hesitant to give this door a chance. I am glad I did though. It is well made and well engineered. I allows me to control access for my 5 pups while I am away and get notifications when they are in or out. Their mobile app is intuitive and works well. Installation was fairly easy, make sure to follow their instructions closely if you have a metal door, as it will interfere with the collar tag detection. I am using this door via the standalone battery option as its mounted in a metal exterior door. App monitors the battery level and life has been good on the 4x C batteries. WiFi has been very consistent with only a few disconnects in months of use. My cautions are the following. 1.) If you are using the access control option (not just locked/unlocked), your pup will need to wait a few seconds for the door to release. Its fast, but my pups are impatient so they might bump their noses using the door for the first week. They will get used to the noise and wait though. 2.) I also removed one of the centering magnets at the bottom of the flapper. Two magnets require too much effort for small dogs/cats to push in my opinion. It works perfectly fine without it too. The door centers fine and the latch holds. 3.) The lower threshold is slightly bulkier than I expected, so I put a foam ramp for the dogs attached to the door, makes climbing through the door a snap and less intimidating for my small dogs.

I was using without any problem a cat door from SureFlap, but I wanted to control which cat could go out and when. After some research, I decided to buy the SmartDoor which was supposed to do the job. When I received it I learned I needed to spend an extra $100 to mount it to a wall. That door is big, much bigger than the SureFlap, hence a large hole in the wall, and a very cumbersome installation. The setup with the app is not straightforward, and the app is not as easy as it should be. If you need to change something in the schedule you cannot, you have to delete the scheduled action and reprogram it. I understand the idea behind the frosted flap, but an option to get a transparent flap will be appreciated. Imagine being a cat and having to use the door not knowing what's going on on the other side. My cat used to enjoy their personal window with the previous cat door. The main issue is the door randomly not reading the microchip leaving a very frustrated cat not being able to use the door. The other problem is the very very very slow process of unlocking the door when a cat is in front of it (that's when it works) which leads the cat to walk away from it before it's fully unlocked. I'm very pissed off to have spent a lot of money on something which doesn't live up to its promises. I can't even step back and reinstall my previous cat flap, the hole in the wall is now way to big for it...

Purchased this on 9/11/2024 and it is now 7/19/2025, and the door has completely stopped working. It worked pretty great up until this time. However, now I have paid $400 for a standard cat flap as I have taped the locking mechanisms so that I can still use this for now. I will now have to make sure the cats get in and shut the door to the basement room that the door is located at night instead of using the wifi to lock it. We also now will have to keep them out of that room if we leave for a vacation as my elderly mother can't use the stairs to close the door. TL:DR: Turned into a hunk of junk in less than a year and I wasted $400. Edit to add: Contacted the company directly and they are replacing the door as it is inside the 12 month warranty. Hope that the new one lasts. Also, changed rating from one to 4 based on customer service

Great to keep other critters from entering your home. Easy to program too

I have never written a review before but this is an expensive yet super unreliable, poorly designed product. I want to save you the cost, effort, and time you will waste trying make this product work, only to ultimately find, as I did, that it is very poorly designed hardware and poorly designed software that will not deliver on its many promises. The app is very buggy and even after programming schedules you will find it resets often and may lock your pet in or out. The RF chip reader is very weak - even though it did initially find my cat's chip ID during configuration, it never detected it when the cat neared the door, so I had to rely on the collar tag which is not ideal, as my cat doesn't need additional tags on the collar that may fall off, get hung up, or otherwise annoy him. The door also often does not fully close, causing the motor to cycle as it tries to latch the door, which returns errors to the phone app, causing noise and wear and tear. I could go on but I won't bother and neither should you. This is simply an awful product, as most other customers have also found.

I liked the easy installation and functionality. I have had trouble keeping the collar fob on my dog’s collar. The attachment part on the fob seems to be too small to stay on the key ring circle. I have a call into the company but have not received a reply as yet. All said it works well and my dog likes it.

Worst pet door I have ever purchased. All of my cats are chipped. This door can't detect any of them even though they are supported chips according to the scrappy documentation. Had to but collar tags anyway. The door barely works with the tags. My cat will sit there pawing at the door for 10 minutes before it detects the tag. The door is so stiff my cats have to hit it at a run to open it. The tunnels you can buy for make it through a wall do not connect directly to it. Basically this whole pet door is way overpriced. Doesn't do half of what it claims. And what it does do it does poorly. Overall this is a crap show of a product.

"v1.01 is not supported by the app anymore, please call customer support for a replacement". I don't have ability to get a replacement because it's technically used, and I'm wondering if there's even hardware advancements made since v1.01.. I called the company and they took foreverrrr to get ahold of, the first number they gave me was to a RECYCLING CENTER! and this was given to me directly by a representative on their website!! That's ridiculous, not even a typo because it's all over their website I realized later. But anyways I found a USA/Canada number eventually, and after waiting forever I got ahold of someone that ended up forwarding me to the technical department, who tried obfuscating the fact they just didn't wanna tell me, I know he could of found out if he didn't know, and the lady who forwarded me to technical told me they'd 100% answer that question, I got litterally no information about the hardware advancements whatsoever in any way, even when directly asking about the wifi module and RFID antenna/module. So the app locked me out, and the door won't work whatsoever without the app, and I'm wondering if they locked me out because they upgraded the hardware since v1.01, or if this is just a bigger political scandal in itself, the software locking me out of something I buy is something I strongly disagree with, and a new standard needs to be set for smart products in general, they should not be allowed to do this, it's 1 thing if the v1.01 hardware was shotty, but entirely different to lock users out of their own belongings JUST because they can.. And if the hardware was shotty in v1.01 that's their own fault, no good reason whatsoever to lock people out of the app, not needed and that's coming from a technical pro who codes for fun for about 16 years now. The wifi light on the product housing actually stopped lighting up at all when I was tinkering with the door, the Bluetooth and wifi both were refusing to work, and I remember reading reviews that mentioned the same thing, even though I was locked out of the app i experienced this as well, and maybe that's a reason they wanted to abandon v1.01 but also not mandatory to lock people out just because problems that seem to be inconsistent, customer support maybe got tired of dealing with people complaining about the older versions, I'm not sure, personally I'm gonna order the door for full price and do further testing, and compare the hardware on the inside to see if there's advancements on the physical side, or if this is a bigger scandal in itself. Also if you buy this door, don't forget to call them and register your warrenty! Will edit my review after I receive the new version of this product.

Klappe kommuniziert nicht (korrekt) mit App. App schiesst die Wlan-Verbindung ab. Der Kundendienst ist bemüht (Problem mit App). Aber das alleine macht die Klappe nicht funktionsfähig. Klappe hat ein paar Wochen (ohne App-Verbindung) gut funktioniert, jetzt ist es kalt draussen und der Motor der Verriegelung streikt - wir kriegen die Klappe nicht mehr offen. Ob es an der Kälte liegt ist fragwürdig, denn mit Drücken der Ent- und Verriegelungstaste kriegten wir sie einmal auf. Das war aber einmalig. Wir haben die Klappe gekauft, da wir eine Klappe für grosse Katzen gesucht haben, welche wir an den Strom anschliessen können. Dies wäre hier toll gewesen. Auf die App-Funktion hätten wir noch verzichten können, (die Verarbeitung und die Grösse der Klappe begeistert wirklich) aber der Motor der Verriegelung muss schon zuverlässig funktionieren. Fazit: Wir schicken sie zurück, sobald wir die Alternative erhalten haben.

Dommage que je ne puisse pas mettre 0 !!!!!!! Une horreur, rien ne marche, la trappe ne s'appaire que de temps en temps, pas moyen de valider la puce implantée sur mon chat, même le badge officiel fourni avec ne fonctionne qu'une fois sur 2 !!! Produit A FUIR !!!! Appel au SAV PetSafe complètement inutile avec une personne nous disant que ce produit fonctionne mal et qu'il ne vont plus le vendre : un vrai sketch !!! Vu le prix c'est inacceptable !

Solid door but smart is not what it is. It won’t pick up dog key and keeps going off line so no access to door from app. Very over priced for a smart door that is not smart.

This door is completely useless. When my cat uses it, it overswings, so swings back the other way before trying to return to the central point, which it then doesn’t have the power to do. It rests just in front of the central catches. To open it again requires a strong , sharp shove from a human. So once the cat is out, he’s stuck and vice versa.
