Is This Man Immortal? I Wish…
Whenever I hear a new album by the – now 75-year old! – Iggy my mind casts itself back to that legendary Mick Rock photo from the early 70s of the Ig, David Bowie and Lou Reed embracing and prompts the question – would anyone have picked Mr Osterberg to be the longest lived of this iconic trio? Of course, despite Iggy’s notoriously 'indulgent’ past, he has (partly via his thoughtful, diverse radio show on BBC 6 Music) now assumed the mantle of 'national treasure’ (I think it perfectly reasonably to co-opt the man as an honorary Brit), as well as being, perversely back in his student days, the winner of the 'most likely student to become President of the USA’! With the quite brilliant Every Loser, Iggy also seems to have assumed an 'industry elder’ persona, rather like the great Miles Davis - albeit unlike Davis who, during his later career, mentored up-and-coming ('unproven’) musicians, Iggy clearly attracts some of the more established 'youngsters’ for collaboration – here represented by members (or past members) of the bands, The Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Jane’s Addiction, Blink-182, Guns N’ Roses, Pearl Jam and Foo Fighters. Equally importantly, these collaborators have also included three top songwriters on Iggy’s last three albums – Josh Homme, Leron Thomas and, now, Andrew Watt. The other thing that is noticeable on Every Loser is that Iggy is (probably unsurprisingly) more than happy to 'rock’ (retro-style) back to his proto-punk days with a trio of absolute blasts – opener Frenzy (aimed at 'someone’ apparently, and likened by Iggy to Leader of the Pack!), Modern Day Ripoff and Neo Punk (an account of how the 'do-it-yourself’ ethic of punk was soon assimilated by the 'establishment’). Elsewhere, you’ll likely soon be tapping your foot to the impressive Strung Out Johnny, 'amazed’ at the tender melodies of Watt’s Morning Show (albeit Iggy has shown he has a penchant for such songs viz. American Caesar’s It’s Our Love or New Values’ Angel) and hypnotised by Eric Avery’s bassline on Comments (Iggy’s scathing attack on the sewer that is social media – albeit, 'Sell your face to Hollywood, they're paying good’ the man, tongue-in-cheek, is happy to be remunerated!). Iggy even has time to take up Andy Warhol’s five decade-old suggestion to simply read out the ads in a freebie newspaper in the comedic, The News For Andy (Interlude). Every Loser is, ironically, every bit the equal of Post Punk Depression which, along with the originality of Free, demonstrates in spades that the man still has much to give.

Peak Iggy Pop
Have not been able to stop playing this album since it arrived. Frenzy obviously stands out as a quick banger, but may other songs stand out. Strung Out Johnny is a personal favourite, followed by me throwing myself about to Neo Punk.Production values are superb, you can tell a lot of work went into making this album shine. Even if you were never previously a fan, you will find something on this album you like.

The Latest Sounds From Mr Pop
Iggy back on form with EVERY LOSER... After the first playing in the car on CD sounds a little bit like his past album INSTINCT... Hey... But its all new & that's what's good about Mr Pop, always pulling rabbits out of hats & retaining his throne as the godfather of punk... Rock On! Igmeister... We Love You... Can't wait to hear it on vinyl xxx

Bit disappointed if I’m honest
This is not nearly as good as his last two albums depression or free. For me he’s largely reverted back to some ‘hair metal’ instrumentation which he fell foul to in the late 80’s.What do you expect though when you hire guns n roses to back you.Couple of good tracks but, like I say, not a patch on his recent releases!

Still being our dog
An Iggy album for the past , present and future. Frenzy recalls the wild energy of Raw Power, Strung Out Johnny could be a Lust for Life outtake . Other tracks include captivating spoken intros in the style of Tom Russell until all too soon we get the final metal defiance of The Regency. With tracks featuring Duff McKagan and the late great Taylor Hawkins plus an immersive production sound this is Iggy's most satisfying outing since the Bowie-fuelled Blah Blah Blah.
