Size and shape of a credit card. No identifying marks on the card to show what it is, although to an extent a completely blank card, does indicate it is a security key of some sort. I have put on a credit card sticker you can place on the front of cards to both personalise them and to anonymise the cards front. Setting up was simple and straight forward on an IOS device against the apple account. As with most apps or services you want to set this up for it is where the options for setting two factor authentication are. Once setup it works simply via the NFC reader and positioning the phone is the same as for Apply Pay or reading Smartcards (such as Oyster, Train Companies or Credit cards). This does support both FIDO2 (CTAP2) and U2F (CTAP1). Some banks and credit card companies may not support FIDO2 so having legacy support for U2F is useful. The one thing I hadn’t considered is that when you set up using a FIDO2 card, many services do not allow concurrent use of authenticator apps. I am concerned about what happens if I lose/misplace this card and will do more investigation before I fully switch over to using FIDO2 cards.

I've been very pleased with this security key card. The card itself feels well made, with a solid construction that should stand up to everyday carrying in a wallet. Once configured, the card worked reliably and made logging in to supported services both quick and secure. I particularly like the fact that it reduces reliance on SMS codes or authenticator apps for supported accounts. Compatibility is another strong point. Support for both FIDO2 (CTAP2) and U2F (CTAP1) means it works with a wide range of online services, making it a flexible option if you use multiple platforms and accounts. The combination of good build quality, portability and broad compatibility makes this a useful security upgrade for anyone looking to strengthen their account protection. Overall, I'd happily recommend it. Those already familiar with security best practices will get up and running quickly, while newcomers may just need a little extra time to learn the setup process.

Cryptnox FIDO Card - Fido2 Certified - Security Key - Price when reviewed £ 26.99 Despite the description saying this card is compatible with Android, I cannot make it work. This is not helped by the absence of instructions from the manufacturer. The app seems to fail to register the card on my phone, but I'm unsure if it's the app, the card or user error.

With passkeys and other passwordless security methods being accepted for increasingly large numbers of services, security keys like this one are a potential good alternative to using on device solutions like fingerprint. I checked this one out from Crypto company Cryptonox. Set up first and this is relatively straightforward on an iOS device once you've found the on phone menus though I didn't manage to get it to work with Android - not a huge surprise given it's not promised but it would be useful to have cross device support. Most phones will interact with the card with NFC which reads it quickly though you will likely need another adapter or a built in reader to use the chip or NFC on a laptop. The card itself is similar to any other credit card though with nothing printed on it. Overall then if it works with your set up it's a great option to add to the overall security, however make sure you have everything you need before you get started.

Cool little piece of tech to have on you. Paired with the reader will be a hit and miss on some or if not most sites as all websites support fido2 differently.
