No complaints this was exactly as advertised.

Unlike Ally Mckenzie I did have a use for this as I am still a complete dinosaur producing illustrations with hand lettering. This is a marvellous little gadget that allows you to produce regular, even guidelines for hand lettering and calligraphy.To get the best from it you need a board with a firmly fixed horizontal rule to slide it along and a well sharpened, reasonably hard, long pointed pencil to put in the little holes.Practicing on a bit of scrap paper first is advisable as you want to smoothly make light but legible lines that erase easily and do not score the surface.Once you have got the hang of you can produce the same guidelines again and again in whatever dimensions you please. It is very good for when you need an extra line for the tops of lower case letters and centring capitals.

With computer lettering taking over this aspect of industry, it wont hurt to retainold lettering skill, which you will need to create your own comic fonts.

Back in the 1980s, when I first worked in the comics industry, I really wanted one of these. I quite enjoyed hand-lettering and would spend ages with a ruler and pencil ruling up lettering guidelines. Problem was, the guidelines you get with a ruler are never quite even, so I'd get terrible results.The Ames guide is used with a ruler and pencil as well - but here you put the pencil point in the hole on the Ames guide and using the ruler as a guiderail, draw the Ames guide across the paper to draw the guidelines. Perfectly even guidelines.Nowadays, lettering is done by scanning examples of your lettering onto a computer then using something like Fontographer to build a digital font of your own hand lettering (I cover the process in my book "How to Draw and Sell Comic Strips").But with this Ames guide, I've satisfied a thirty year old ambition ... Happy now.

Some of the holes weren’t holes at all defeating the purpose of this tool. Though it can in a sealed bag it was also covered in the fine hair line scratches

Nothing amazingly special. These are useful but you could really get the same (potentially better) effect by drilling holes in any solid piece of material.

I am in to researching my family history and have found that my Tree drawing is getting larger and wider. With this small instrument I am able to very neatly condense details and therefore make the tree much more manageable without comprimising it['s reading and spacual effect. I would not have known about such an instrument if it wasn't for searching Amazon for drawing aids.

The wheel was hard to move in the beginning, but moving a little was good after. Fortunately, I think it was too expensive🤑, but at least it is in good quality.In all, I was very satisfied with my purchase.💕

Die Schablone ist verzogen und uneben. Weder liegt sie glatt auf dem Papier, noch sind alle Kanten gerade. An einer Kante ist eine sehr raue, unebene Stelle, dass man an der Kante keine saubere Linie zeichnen kann. Die längste Kante ist so verbogen, dass keine gerade Linie gezogen werden kann.Rundherum ist nur eine der Kanten entgratet und kann für die Führungslinien genutzt werden. Die Scheibe in der Mitte lässt sich nur mit viel Mühe drehen und ich erwarte fast, dass die Schablone dabei irgendwann zerbricht. Die Löcher in der Scheibe sind im Gegenteil dazu sauber geformt und gut zu nutzen.Im Kunststoff sind Blaseneinschlüsse und es sieht aus, als ob das Ding bei der Herstellung zu viel Hitze abbekommen hat.Anders als auf den Produktbildern ist die linke untere Ecke (markiert mit 68°) keine Spitze. Die Ecke ist abgerundet und damit nicht gut zu gebauchten. Wenn ich damit im 68° Führungslinien bis zu dem Lineal, das als Führungsleiste dient, ziehen willen, ist diese abgerundete Ecke nicht hilfreich.Wenn die Scheibe dann doch mit vorsichtigem Druck auf die richtige Markierung eingestellt ist, kann man damit einigermaßen saubere Zeilen zeichnen. Deshalb die 2 Sterne.
