Great info for a team leader
If you aren't religious, this book is still fantastic. It even tells you to ex it out if need be. But there are so many great points about how to lead your TEAM.

A strong moral and values-focused leadership approach
I read "The Servant Leader" as part of my on-boarding process with my new company. For several weeks, I've watched the leaders working within their planning, training, coaching and selling processes with great interest--as there is something deeper with more attention to what drives each and every employee than in other organizations for which I've worked. This has been very interesting because of the commitment and values-focus the executives apply.Now--having read the book--I understand the basis of this employee development and support process. While the Christen focus at first surprised me, it is valuable to see how the servant leadership principles can be applied to practical aspects of today's organizations.I understand the points made by some of the other reviewers about the brevity of the book and the lack of detail and depth. Unlike other such books--where detailed case studies and descriptions of how specific companies may have succeeded using this approach--I think this decision to keep the discussion at a high level works better. In this way, you can think through your own ways of aligning servant leadership with the goals, values and picture of the future of your own organization. The authors recognize that bringing servant leadership into one's own management approach is no easy matter ... that it will take a long time, many iterations and constant visionary and implementation experimentation to finally succeed.

Great introduction to Servant Leadership but doesn't do the concept justice
The greatest shortcoming of this book is the lack of recognition for those who have come before, especially Richard Greenleaf, as key proponents of the servant leadership approach to being a leader. Ironically, Ken Blanchard provided an endorsement quote included on publications by Greenleaf, but he never cites or gives credit to the author that brought Servant Leadership back around to the public conversation. Probably the best use for this book is as a recognition tool for an up-and-coming servant leader within the Christian church or ministry environment. Greenleaf focuses significantly on the use of servant leadership in secular and government environments just as much as religious leaders; however, this text is very much focused on the Christian servant leader. For more constructive discussions or exploring the practice of servant leadership in depth, other resources are more beneficial such as Blanchard's "Servant Leadership in Action" or Greenleaf's "Servant Leadership: A Journey into the Nature of Legitimate Power and Greatness."

Not just a book, A Guide!
This book epitomizes a how to guide for servant leaders. Blanchard has provided illustrative examples based upon the teachings of Jesus Christ to improve leadership skills that will last a lifetime. He closes the book with a guide to revisit skills supportive of the commitment to servant leadership. He also provides a pledge that can serve a reusable template to track your goals while navigating endless leadership challenges. This book is a must read for hands on operational leaders and strategic executives alike.

Amazing and applicable
This book is highly recommended for anyone serving people. I read this in a book club and I couldn’t stop reading ahead! The steps, scriptures, and principles in the books all spoke to me and my challenges as a leader. I am ready to deep dive into application now that I’m finished reading. I know I’ll be going back into the book to review and reaffirm the leadership God has developed inside of me!

Devotional Approach to Servant Leadership
The Servant Leader, by Ken Blanchard and Phil Hodges, is a beautifully-designed book from J. Countryman, a division of Thomas Nelson. Its 125 pages, richly illustrated, offer an easily digested overview of the authors' themes of servant leadership and situational leadership. It is obvious from the design that this book is not intended, like many leadership books, to be plowed through and underlined and annotated; it is more conducive to thoughtful meditation over a longer period of digestion. While parts of the book (such as the couple pages on solitude and prayer) are more basic than I'd like, there are still some helpful insights and welcome reminders for any leader, whatever his or her level of accomplishment or spirituality. I found especially helpful the authors' list of seven reactions people have to change, and the tactics leaders can employ to ease the pain of change. The book also offers a useful introduction to Blanchard's Situational Leadership concept. If you're looking for depth or have already read numerous Blanchard books, look elsewhere. If you haven't yet read much of Ken Blanchard's work, or if you're looking for a devotional approach to the topic of servant leadership (or a perfect gift for someone in leadership), you'll love The Servant Leader.
