Popular from the late 19th through the early 20th centuries, the British Webley Pug and Bull Dog revolvers, manufactured by P. Webley & Son of Birmingham, provided security for many at home or concealed in coat pockets. Over 800 photos and thorough text bring to light detailed information on these often elusive, solid-frame, short-barreled handguns. Many models were previously unknown, such as the ring trigger .22 No. 2 and the Silver and Fletcher No. 2 Bull Dog. Includes Belgian and other English makers of the Tower Bull Dog, the Scott, Tranter Bulldog, and the Greener No. 5. Cartridges, cartridge boxes, and loading tools are featured with a scale of relative rarity and numerous appendices. This book is a must for all who are passionate about historical firearms. Review: Impotant Historical Work on British Vintage Handguns - Webley Solid-frame Revolvers: Nos. 1, 1 1/2, 2, Bull Dogs, and Pugs When Mr. Black approached me about including pictures of a couple of my Webley Bulldogs in a book He was considering compiling, I never imagined a work such as this. It is indisputably the most complete and beautiful tome ever assembled on the subject of British "Pocket Revolvers". It is a must for any collector or historian interested in the subject class of firearms. Seeing this book really whets my appetite for the author's forthcoming books on "Solid Frame" Webleys and "Breaktop" Webleys. If you haven't acquired one as of yet, look ardently for this Author's first publication "Tranter Cartridge Firearms" out-of-print but very valuable to the collector. Review: Ouvrage remarquable ! - Ouvrage remarquable tant par la mine d'information qu'il procure que par la très belle qualité des illustrations. Compte tenu du créneau très étroit qui est traité, il conviendra surtout à des collectionneurs déjà avancés.

Great Book on a Subject near & dear to my Heart.
I am lucky to E-mail Joel, and Love his Writing, for he knows his subject quite well. so well it seems at times reading , this great thick book it would seem as if he was there. and it lead me to putting my Webley & Son Bulldog in 380 (this side of the pond .38 colt short into a old fashioned wood case. Many Thanks Joel for bringing to light IMHO some of the greatest revolvers ever made aside from Colts &S&W ;

For the advanced collector
This is a very good book on the specialized subject of certain British Webley revolvers from the 1860's through the 1880's or so. There are many excellent pictures to make identification of particular variations easier.
