Silverline 282522 Hasp and Staple Heavy Duty 50 x 180 mm

Looks strong at first glance but staple design and weld look to be weak and would fail if a large crow bar applied in the right place. The fixing screws are a joke - I used M6 coach bolts but this required the fixing holes to be enlarged by drilling hence breaking the anti-corrosion coating. the hole in the staple too large - another place for the tip of a crow bar to be inserted. Very low cost and looks strong at a casual glance but a redesign of the staple could make it very much stronger at little extra cost.

Excellent quality as you'd anticipate from a larger manufacturer such as silverline, nice heavy construction, yet there is some play in the hinge which, as other reviews have pointed out, could allow it to be levered out if using small screws, such as those suppled.

A crowbar or hammer will pull this off in five seconds flat if you use the screws that come with it. They're much too thin.However it looks the part, is hefty and makes a satisfying clink/clack when closing and locking. I put this on my shed as an additional and visible lock to reduce the likelihood of opportunistic thefts. Plus whenever I take my bike out or bring it back (it's always locked and bolted inside too) there's a good clattering of steel which sounds like the lock is mightier than it actually is. This has to be a good thing.Anyway, it's cheap, it's very heavy duty and it will do a secure job. Just buy the biggest screws that you can and be aware that if somebody wants to break in, they probably will.

Recently bought a new garden shed and lock hasp supplied was OK but not ideal. This is a well made heavy lock mechanism which was easy to fit and more secure

Fitted to my shed. This has a very solid strong feel to it. Very happy with the quality and strength. I'd looked at lots of others first before choosing this and pleased I did.

These are rather crudely made but robust; you get what you pay for. Padlock needs to have a thick shaft as otherwise the bolts/screws used to fit the staple are accessible (or use coach screws to fix).

This is a really solid hasp and staple which I have fitted to a large tool cabinet with expensive tools inside. It would take some cutting through and with a decent padlock is pretty much impenetrable. Keeps my tools safe in garage. If you want to lock up something of value this is a great product for the price.
