SUUNTO MC-2 Mirror Compass, Global/Northern Hemisphere Orientation Adventure/Hiking Compass, Magnifying Lens, Adjustable Declination & Luminous Markings

Unlike many of these items available on this site, this one is genuine! I was losing my mind sorting through the fakes on here so decided to come back and add my review... Compass has already been used once to navigate the Cairngorms and was incredibly accurate. Buy this one.

I have used several types of compass over a large number of years from the military prismatic type to both Silva and Suunto orienteering types. All have their particular virtues. Prismatics are almost impossible to break and are the most accurate, orienteering types weigh virually nothing and are very easy and quick to use, not as accurate as the prismatic but plenty good enough for most normal purposes. They're pretty robust but it is possible to break the baseplate and the markings can wear off with extended use. This one was bought to serve both in the UK and overseas as it has a global needle. The mirror housing, in addition to preforming it's intended function as part of the compass and clinometer sighting mechanism, also provides very useful protection to the needle housing and baseplate. Seems pretty bombproof to me and still very lightweight. Just throw away the curious little plastic clip and thread the lanyard directly into the compass baseplate, then it should still be with you when you need it!

This is a top rate compass. Can't say I use it a lot but just love knowing that I have it in the back-pack. Always worth understanding how to use a compass properly before deciding if you need one.

I didn't find it as easy to use when sighting as the Silva Type 54. Also, as it lacked a clear dir of trav arrow, I didn't know which way was/is up, so to speak. Just as well I'm retired so. (Not much of a review, I know, but users of this level of kit seldom need reviews).

A mirror compass greatly reduces the guessing. I have not used this to it's full potential

This is the best of the lot having also purchased a Silva but returned to different seller as quality not as good in my opinion ...glad I opted for Suunto. Expensive though..hence 4 star for value.

A very good compass indeed although I preer a nautical hand bearing compass for taking back bearings. I find them easier to use.

Did a lot of research and this one meets my needs at the right price and weight. As some online research will tell you, the numbers are not printed into recesses in the plastic so will be vulnerable to wearing off. I intend to reduce this risk by treating it with care and minimising friction contact by keeping it in a soft, snug pouch when in my pack. Should get a good few years use I think.

La meilleure boussole que je n ai jamais possédé ! J utilise des boussoles silva depuis 20 ans, je ne sais pas pourquoi c etait pour moi la marque de référence, depuis quelques années je trouve que la marque silva made in china ne tiens plus la route, j ai repris il y a quelques mois la expedition neo S qui fonctionne bien mais a des finitions vraiment mediocre (120 euros quand même !) et qui de plus ne possède pas le système globale (pour hémisphère nord et sud) je me suis alors penché sur cette version en G soit (global) l aiguille fonctionne sur toute la planète. Alors déjà la finition suunto ... Merveilleux ! Mais la différence de qualité est vraiment flagrante, on a un objet très bien fini avec aucun jeu, les graduations de pente sont géniales, le boitier est solide et léger... Je ne repasserais jamais chez silva et resterais chez suunto désormais. Je recommande les yeux fermés super produit !

Wygląda OK, jakość lepsza niż silva neo s. Zastanawiam sie tylko dlaczego igła jest z plastiku? Na zdjęciach jest raz plastikowa a raz metalowa..... I za tę rozbieżność minus jedna gwiazdka. Sam kompas działa ok. Zakup naprawdę szybki 24h.

Bussola perfetta per uso cartografico (escursionismo, trekking, esplorazione, attraversate di ghiacciaio). Ottima collimazione, buono il clinometro. Ottima visibilità notturna (occorre esporla alla luce solare per lungo tempo, diversamente la durata della fluorescenza è limitata nel tempo). La trovo un poco costosa, ma è di ottima qualità e la garanzia è "a vita" (da verificare cosa vogliono dire ...)
