Bye bye ants!
My poor apple tree suffered last year as ants moved in; they loved it so much, theyโve come back with a vengeance! After researching different things I could try, I settled on this. I read reviews before I purchased so knew what I was getting. Yes the pot is small and seems only half full when you first open it, but I only have one affected tree so it didnโt matter to me. I applied liberally with an old spoon around the whole trunk and have enough left over to keep topping up if needed or to re-do next year. The grease is thick, sticky and went on easy enough. The hardest part of applying was trying to get all the ants out of the way! If youโre using to deter ants and theyโre absolutely relentless as in my case and you care about nature as I do, Iโd recommend applying at dawn or after dusk when ants are least active. The product was effective immediately, the ants crawling up the trunk were confused and couldnโt go past the grease. Itโs been 3 days and thereโs just the odd hopeful ant visiting, they realise thereโs no way up and theyโre gradually moving out. The grease even withstood a whole day of heavy rain yesterday and is still doing its job. Overall Iโm really happy and thereโs hope for this years apple harvest!

Effective
Use this on my cherry tree early spring. It prevents the ants from climbing up and taking over. So prevents the leaf curl with all the aphids.

Stops ants in their tracks!
We have a cherry tree that is constantly covered in blackfly that are farmed by ants and spread all over the tree. They cause all the leaves to curl up and make the tree look a complete mess. I have tried pesticides in previous years with very little success. I was literally ready to remove the tree and replace with something else but the wife wouldnโt allow it as it was a gift. I have now put a band of this grease around the bottom of the tree, and can see the ants trying to figure out a way across it, but have no success. While this hasnโt removed the blackfly from the tree, it has made it manageable and I simple blast them off the leaves with a hosepipe every few days. It isnโt a big tree, and now only a few leaves have the problem. Before using this, almost every leaf was covered and it was impossible to control them. Highly recommended - even if it is a bit messy to apply (I used an ice lolly stick)

Easy to use and likely to be an effective barrier.
Hopefully this will do the trick, but I got around to buying this a bit too late to probably stop the pesky blighters crawling up the trunk. It needs applying in November, or even October. Anyway, better late than never, I hope. And there is always later this year to apply it again! It goes on easily and is not too messy, but rather than try and clean the old brush I used, (what would I clean it with??? - no instructions about cleaning the brush, as far as I could see) I chucked it away. Got a nice thick (10cm) barrier around the trunk quickly and easily, no mess.
