So glad I had one of these on hand as spare last summer. A/C went down in the middle of a hot Texas summer. Knowing a bad capacitor is a common failure reason, I safely powered off the A/C system, drained the cap of stored power, removed and replaced, powered up and we were back in the cool! Works perfectly!

Easy to replace, fixed my issue.
If you can do basic wiring and understand how to discharge a capacitor, buy one of these (the one specific to your A/C) and keep it handy. I replaced mine on a hot Saturday saving what would probably have been a $200 to $300 repair trip. I went to Trane's website and looked up the part number for my A/C, bought one of these, and left it on the shelf for maybe 5 years. That was ~$25 well spent. If the blower is running, but the compressor is not (blowing hot air), the capacitor is one of the most likely things that went bad. Cheap way to see if you need major service or not.
