Will these keep raccoons or other animals from walking on the roof to find spots to access my attic?

I bought mine to keep birds off of our porch railing and they have worked great!

Can these be used vertically to keep a raccoon from climbing up a deck?

They can be mounted any way you like, but their effectiveness vertically would depend on the determination of the raccoon. Keep in mind that the spikes are VERY sharp and if you mount them vertically they must be above where a child or an adult might accidentally bump into them.
