what is the backing? Is it adhesive or does need to glued to surface?

It needs to be glued to the surface with resin.

Can this be used as an emi (electromagnetic interference) shield ? what is the electrical resistance ?

Yes, carbon fiber can be used as an EMI (Electromagnetic Interference) shield to some extent. Carbon fiber is an electrically conductive material, but its effectiveness as an EMI shield depends on various factors such as the specific carbon fiber composite used, its thickness, and the frequency range of the electromagnetic radiation you are trying to shield against. Carbon fiber composites can offer some level of EMI shielding due to their conductive properties, but they may not provide as high a level of shielding as other materials specifically designed for EMI protection, such as metal foils or conductive coatings. To improve the EMI shielding effectiveness of carbon fiber, additional measures like incorporating conductive additives or using hybrid structures with other shielding materials may be necessary. It is important to carefully consider the specific requirements of your application and consult with experts in the field to determine the most suitable shielding solution.
