Best anthology I know of for the Greek myths.
This is a fantastic sourcebook for the myths and stories told by the Archaic and Classical Greeks. It is a collection of writings from ~600B.C.E. (depending on your dating) up until the first few centuries C.E. It is NOT a complete, coherent retelling of the myths, and that is not its purpose. Personally, I thought that Professor Trzaskoma et. al. did an excellent job compiling this; we get the entire Theogony of Hesiod, as well as substantial portions of many other authors (highlights include the Homeric Hymns, Hyginus' work on mythology, and Pseudo-Apollodorus' Library of Mythology. My personal favorite was Lucian's comedy, a Roman retelling of the Judgement of Paris which I had never read before).Additionally, some simple maps at the front, a collection of quite thorough family trees (which are cross-referenced), and an index of personages at the back make this a fine single-volume source for Greek mythology. My only complaint is that I would like the rear index to be a bit more thorough, but I do think that the level of thoroughness I'd love to see is outside the scope of what is realistic to expect.Overall, a fine single-volume work. If you're looking for more information (in translation) of the primary sources of Greek myth, I'd highly recommend this.

An Excellent Book On The Greek Myths
Bullfinch is O.K., but, while it's good, it only givespassing reference to many of the Greek myths, e.g. Theseus, the most revered myth of ancient Athens. The various booksfrom my local library and Amazon all had similar weaknesses, some too simple as stories for very young folks or notdetailed enough in terms of the stories' origins. I wanteda definitive text and took a chance on this book. I was notdisappointed.Just reading about the Linear B in the Preface is worth 10times its price. From Zeus's violent coup to Sinon'sconvincing the skeptical Trojans the horse was a gift of thegods, the book presents the myths from the original sourceswith their original magic and power. I'm not an expert butthe translations appear to be excellent. The detailed indexorganizes the different traditions for each story andcharacter. This book makes clear why the Greek myths have captivatedgenerations.

Better than Hamilton
I’m so in love with this book! I teach high school English and do a classical mythology unit and I hate using Edith Hamilton’s book. This one is so much better! Students even prefer it.

Pretty Good
The style of this book is a little strange, but it includes good stories. If you like classical mythology, this is a good choice.

Mythology is What this Book is About!
The Greeks and Romans produced many handbooks of mythology. This book brings together a nice selection of these texts.

The book is not like a whole story book but it's like the Ovid's
The book is not like a whole story book but it's like the Ovid's, section by section. So if you want to read about a certain character you'll have to make use of the book content.

But I would recommend getting a hardcopy as soon as you can
The windows 10 kindle app is just a mess to navigate and book, especially this one where you will be flipping back and forth all the time. The reason for this is because the app doesn't use the correct page numbers, instead it will display the page number in the text to mark where a new page would have started on the physical copy. This makes it very strange to read.If you absolutely *need* access to this book then this version will suffice. But I would recommend getting a hardcopy as soon as you can.
