80ft IR Illuminator | AI4 No Hot Spot Wide Angle Infrared Light for Security Camera (w/Power Adapter)

Lights up my entire back yard approx. 25 yards long by 35 yards wide. It is a flood light not a spotlight so it covers a nice wide area very evenly. The photocell sensor works well, automatically turning the unit on at dusk and off in in morning. My only concern is how warm the wall plug gets. I can eventually see this part failing but for now it works as it should so time will tell.

“In light” of recent talk surrounding concerns about night vision abilities of the new Arlo Pro 2 camera, I thought I’d explore and review a few third-party auxiliary IR lights to supplement the existing illumination already on the camera. After being a pleased Arlo user for a few years, I too found the Arlo 2’s slightly short on night lighting when compared to their predecessors. Before going further, let me make clear that despite of this minor shortcoming, I still prefer the newer Arlo Pro 2’s over the older models given the added features/capabilities that the new Arlo Pro 2 has. And now that I have found a more than adequate solution to fill the void of night lighting, I couldn’t be happier. And by the way, these solutions apply to any of the Arlo cameras for those wanting to augment their night recordings. So, here’s what I found. What they do: For those unfamiliar with night vision/Infra Red, we are talking about light invisible to the human eye, so not just any light will do. Night vision/IR lights with wavelengths other than 850nm will do little if anything to help the camera at night. It is also notable that these lights are practically invisible to humans/animals. At night, just as you do when the Arlo camera is active, you will see a faint red glow of the LED bulbs, though hardly noticeable a few feet away. Only when looking through the Arlo camera can you see the huge difference of illumination. The hardware: I bought three IR lights from Amazon that match the Arlo’s 850nm wavelength. I was also careful to look for the widest-angle lights – those with a 90 degree – to capture the most area possible, and the longest distance/most powerful yet keeping the size of the light down to a minimum since ideally these things are going to be mounted right next to the cameras. There were lots to choose from but I narrowed it down to three that represented a small, medium, and large size. I wanted to see how small I could go before losing an effective range of the light. Here’s what I came up with: Small: Tendelux 80ft IR Illuminator AI4 ($19.65) Medium: Tendelux 120ft IR Illuminator BI8 ($30.65) Large: JC (JCHENG) 131ft IR Illuminator 12-LED ($31.99) Each of the lights have an outdoor rating of IP65 or higher which means they are fine in the rain and even under the pressure of washing. They all draw 1-watt per bulb so the energy pull of each of the three sizes are 4watts, 8watts, and 12-watts. Each one also includes a built-in photocell switch that automatically turns them off during the day. They all come with standard power adapters (which need to be protected from the elements) that are very short, but I prefer it this way since you can Amazon a “CCTV 2.1mm 5.5mm” extension for the length you need. Something else notable is that the small and medium sized lights (made by Tendelux) have much smaller power adapters than the larger JC unit, likely making them small enough to allow a second plug to fit into a typical outdoor outlet (for those also using power to the camera itself). The test: Using an Arlo Pro 2, I tested each light independently alongside of the camera and below are my results. Conclusion: As you can see, there wasn’t much difference across any of the three. Only when I stepped up to the 12-LED unit did I see slightly more flood that could convince me to use something of that size. I understand that the results will vary depending on factors such as objects within the range of view, but I am satisfied to see that the small unit (AI4) is sufficient for my needs, not just because of its lower price, but more importantly its small size is aesthetically appealing. After all, I already have enough discomfort having cameras around my properties and the thought of added IR lights is about as much as I can handle. Granted, I haven’t had these long enough to witness their longevity and durability but they each seem solid and very well built. Personally, I like the Tendelux brand as the dark lens conceals the LED bulbs, making them more look like a solar charger than a light. So for me, I’m going with the Tendelux 80ft IR Illuminator AI4!

Ran it 24/7 for 3 years. Quit working 3 years to the day after I put it into service. Guess I can't complain. It did a very good job of IR illuminating my garage so my security cam could see with the doors shut. Plenty bright enough for a standard 2 car garage. In case anybody's interested, the failure mode was that one LED went open circuit and since they are all 4 in series the whole unit went dark. I'm going to replace all for LEDs now that I've got it opened up and see if I get another 3 years from it.

My purpose with this was to illuminate a dark room for a Quest 2 VR headset to still be able to function. In this regard, it works flawlessly. It shuts off when it doesn't need to be on, it stays on when it does, and it reflects off walls enough to not need to be dangerously pointed at peoples faces. Feels solid, and has continued working despite taking a tumble to the ground several times.

This device is perfect for what I needed it to do, Basically I had two POE cameras that for some reason after a few months, the night vision stopped working on them and to RMA them it would have costed me more than the camera's were worth so the solution was to give this a shot and it worked well, and in my situation the camera's that failed also had two screw holes on the top of the camera so I was able to mount this on top of the camera so it would shine a direct path, at first I didn't think it would work well but once it got dark out, I found that it works better than the actual camera's IR lights ever did. The only thing I don't like is the power cable, I wish this company would make these POE instead of using a power cord as it would have made the installation better but I can't complain, this IR lights up everything so I can see and detect everything, my camera's motion detect works great with this and all considering I am very happy with this purchase.

I'm a bit late with the review, but it allows a "full cycle" review of the product and supplier. While installing cameras, one was set very high to get a full view of the yard (and, there really wasn't a good place to mount lower). Good view of yard, but so high that the built in IR emitters were pretty much useless. Enter the Tendelux IR emitter. After a bit of research, I selected this unit and installed it in May 2018. It has been in continuous use since. This unit was easy to install (I placed it under the railing on a deck, so no ladders or clumsy reaching), and well illuminated the entire backyard into the wood line (about sixty feet) and the backyard camera is now useful at night. Five stars for value and operation. Fast forward 18 months - unit dies. Looking at it, the lens is pitted where the emitters are (as if weakened by the lights), and the unit appears to have water intrusion. ugh! Two stars for longevity. But, it is within its warranty - right? YES! I contacted Tendelux and within a day a new unit was sent. Five stars for customer service I did some troubleshooting, by trying the new unit with the old power supply and the old unit with the new power supply and confirmed it was simply the old unit that failed. Reinstalled in the same location, with the following extra steps - Wrapped the seam around the housing with electrical tape to seal. Put a bit of sealant in each mounting hole before screwing in place (teflon tape would do the same thing), and ran a bead of caulking where the lens meets the housing. My back yard is now well IR lit again! I have one spot on the side of the house that remains in shadow - I would definitely consider this product to resolve that condition when the time comes.

Just setup an Arlo Pro2 camera system and completed the installation with a few other Amazon items. Rather than write up separate reviews, and assuming other shoppers may be in the same position I was, I'm consolidating all the extra items in an overall solution review. After a lot of searching and researching, I decided on the following to build out the solution: Kiwi Design Adjustable Aluminum Alloy mount: Excellent! They are ALL metal alloy except for the plastic mounting base underneath. Very easy to install and adjust. Even though both cameras are under a soffit or overhanging porch and out of direct elements, I wanted something strong and durable. AND the adjustment screw nut does NOT interfere with the charging cable as complaints about many other mounts note. Highly recommend!! eBoot Silicone skins: Very happy I decided to get these. From a distance the light brown fades into the brick behind for a clean look. The camera itself is hardly noticable unless you know it's there. Taken one Outdoor weatherproof charging cable: Comes with charger that has output at right-angle to input power for clean install. Flat cable is easy to work with and tuck into openings. Again my chargers are either inside, or well-protected under overhangs, so I was not as concerned with full exposure to the elements. Full-time power activates the 3-second 'lookback' buffer on the Pro2, so captures more detail in recordings. No worries about recharging batteries, and less concerns about coming cold-weather performance. Tendelux AI4 IR illuminator: Had seen and read several online reviews that mentioned Pro2 night-vision performance. I decided to add the IR illuminator and makes a noticeable difference. Decided on the smaller AI4 for aesthetic reasons based on small size and black color, and other reviewer comments and comparision photos. The unit itself is hardly noticeable at sidewalk distance. When on, and facing directly and moving towards the lamp, can faintly see the red glow of LEDs, but nothing major. Seeing results at night for first time, I suppose could have gone with a larger unit, but still happy with the balance of performance improvement and physical size. Re: attached photos there are lights on front of garage throwing ambient light, but can still see the difference on brick wall and ground, and shadow of post when IR is on.

I don't think the claim of 80ft is realistic. May be you can measure some lumens at 80ft. But it is not going to be useful illumination. It is just not powerful enough to illuminate things at 80ft. At 4W you cant expect flood lighting. For small areas like in front of garage or small backyard etc. it is ok. If all you want is to keep an eye on things, it is fine. It is not too big. So mounting at windows and keeping it not too obviously visible is practical. There are not many small, round, black IR Illuminators that you can buy. Most of the other IR illuminators are in shiny aluminum finish that is very conspicuous. I wish this were flat black instead of glossy black as the glossy black is easily visible for people looking from outside. Don't make such covert or semi-covert things in conspicuous finish like gloss black. Yeah there is no concentrated hot spot. There is a portion that you can you make out as the brightest area, but it is not like the rest of the coverage is washed out. . Like I mentioned before, for small areas this is fine. The bracket has a hole. But in order to put a screw through that hole, I have to remove the bracket as there isn't much space between the bracket and the body to insert a screw. It is ok if you not going to change the screw for the mounting attachment. Otherwise it is an inconvenience to have to remove the bracket screws every time. For brightness, I would give 3 stars. For cord length I would give 2 stars as I have to buy an extension cord for another $15-20 as the given cord length is just not enough to mount anywhere. Lets see how long this one lasts.

happy with my purchase. it really works to play in a dark using oculus rift s. i am really satisfied. update: noticed that the ir illuminator facing upwards towards the ceiling is highly effective to play vr gaming in the dark. no tracking issues or whatsoever. i think the infrared light is spread the whole game area so that's why i don't get tracking issues. the only problem is its getting warm after a few hours of gaming session.

I was pleasantly surprised at how well this worked! I have a security camera (Dahua wired IP dome camera) on the back deck, then installed a wallfan nearby. The white fan seemed to reflect the IR on the camera, which reduced visibility to almost nil. Purchased this IR Illuminator, it is literally "plug and play": I set it on a table about 8 feet away from the camera, pointed it in the same direction as the camera, and it's like someone flipped on a flashlight! Deck is about 30 feet (see before/after pictures). I will experiment with the best position for the IR Illuminator, but first impression is quite positive. We will see how well it stands up to winter in Canada! Only downside is that placement is limited to nearness of a standard household plug. Not an issue in my case, but might be problematic for some.

I used this because my neighbors camera is pointing our property, this works great at night making the night vision of my camera clearer while blinding my neighbors.

Very pleased with this purchase. Perhaps a bit too bright but it works very well.

Im using it for vr and not for cameras so this review is for vr usage. Its a bit smaller then I thought but it works perfectly fine vr tracing seems to be more accurate and losing tracing on my quest 3 has became a rare occasion. I gotta test more to make sure Edit: Yeah after testing more my quest 3 loses tracking less often in the dark. This is a must have for gaming in a dark room. I only lost tracking like one time yesterday.
