Q: How thick is the unit when collapsed?

The stand goes back and it is just the base board. You can hang it or keep it at the back of any door. I prefer hanging it saves space.

Q: Does the iron holder retract or come off?

The holder does not retract and will not easily come off, though with the right tools, it would be possible to remove. It's great for hanging the board in a closet, though!

Q: Can you slide the board through a dress or sleeve cuff, do the legs get in the way?

I think it is too wide to slide through a sleeve or a cuff.
