I think that fax/modems generally are in an awful mess. As a programmer - I was particularly interested in the called ID (OR Caller Line Identification as its called in the UK.)Sadly I could not get this to work and the "help" you get on this matter it often confusing and inaccurate. So effectively, it was a waste of my money. Does it send faxes ? Yes. So I guess it very much depends on your needs and expectations.

Tried two of these, each on two different Macs, on two different phone lines.The first one just gave a 'phone line could not be detected' and 'modem error' messages.Returned and swiftly replaced by Amazon, outstanding service.Replacement unit would connect about 1 in 20 attempts, and then drop the connection in about 20 seconds.Just to note the built in modem on the 13yr-old imac the newer computer is to replace works just fine...I followed the instructions carefully, and am not unfamiliar with setting up modems. No joy though.I would not recommend this product to friends or family for use with a mac...Great service from Amazon.

I bought this because I needed a modem with caller ID (in the UK). It installed no problem on Windows 7 and 10 but the bundled software did not recognize existence of the modem and so did not install. This did not bother me as I am writing a VB program using the TAPI library to talk to the modem. During testing, the modem would work once and then not notice subsequent calls and I spent a lot of time trying to resolve this. Checking the drivers they seemed up to date but it was when I updated the firmware (from http://support.usr.com/support/product-template.asp?prod=5637) that it started working as it should.

I used it for picking up CallerID and it worked exactly as I wished for. Easy to install, run straight away, no hassle. A part from the price, this modem looked prettier and smarter than any I have bought before. Love it.

Needed a modem for a fax server. Wanted a proper modem so got this. Works perfectly.

I bought this to receive Caller ID information so I can see who is calling before answering the phone when I upgraded to Windows 7 64 bit as my old Zoom modem didn't have 64 bit drivers.US Robotics isn't the cheapest gear but it is good quality and this is no exception. I popped in the driver CD and installed the driver, thne plugged this modem into a USB port and it was instantly recognized by the system and my caller ID software (Identify! from Imptec.com in case you are wondering.)And now I have UK caller ID. Perfect.

Not for me. Hard to set up and not a plug and play.
