what keeps the grease/butter from running off the block?

Hi, thank you for your question. The lava stone has a matte finish that prevents the grease or butter from running off the block easily. However, it is recommended to use a moderate amount of grease or butter to avoid excessive dripping or splashing. Hope this helps!

Mine arrived with surface cracks on both sides, different places, should I be concerned that it may split when heated?

Hi, we're sorry to hear that the unit arrived with cracks. Please contact us directly via www.pyleusa.com/pages/contacts so we can further help you regarding the warranty coverage for your unit. Thank you!

Is it normal for the stone to have cracks new out of the box? There are two, one visible on top, another on bottom, different locations.
