Is it a hard or soft shell carrier?

Please note that it is a soft shell rooftop cargo carrier bag. More lightweight and compact than the hard shell carrier. It has a larger space.

I don't have a roof rack, so can it be compatible with my vehicle?

Yes, you can attach it to 4 door hooks. But you need to make sure that the weatherstripping seal on your car is removable, then you can install the door hooks.

If I don't have a crossbar, how should I deal with the front and back straps?

The front and back straps are removable. So you can remove the front and back straps directly.

How can I attach the rooftop bag to the vehicle?

Please don't worry. You can check the installation video then you will know how to install it.

Will the non-slip mat work?

Yes, but you need to wash the top of your car before you put the non-slip mat down. lf it's dusty, it may not work properly.
