Slumberdown British Wool Super King Duvet 7-9 Tog All Year-Round Quilt for Summer, Autumn & Winter | 100% British Wool, Naturally Regulates Temperature, Hypoallergenic & UK Made (260 x 220cm)

After much pondering I ordered one of these wool duvets for use in my camping car before a January trip to the Scottish Highlands. I knew the weather was going to be bitterly cold so was looking for something snug but which wouldn't be too affected by damp when used in a cramped vehicle with inevitable condensation. Used inside the uninsulated, unheated camping-car in a damp -2°C I was very pleased to find the heavyweight wool duvet kept me warm all night and on the few milder nights, it still wasn't sweltering and I never woke feeling overheated or sweaty - as I can with my previous down duvet which can cause over-heating. I found the wool duvet feels chilly for the first few minutes but then seems to trap and reflect body heat providing and maintaining body heat through the night. At home I use an electric blanket to air my bed before use so this isn't an issue and it feels warm to slip into. As per the instructions, I aired the duvet thoroughly for a few days before use to reduce the sheepy-smell thinking it might be quite overpowering in a very confined space but there was only a very light and mild smell which was barely noticeable and, as an outdoorsy person used to sheep, was actually quite homely. On arrival home, I was so pleased with the performance of the heavyweight duvet in cold damp conditions that I ordered a second in mediumweight for use at home. Both duvets are well made with a thick cotton cover although the single/heavyweight duvet had better finishing with edging over the hem rather than a plain stitched hem as on the king size/mediumweight duvet. The wool seems to be a continuous length stitched into baffles running along the width (or length - depending on how the larger versions are draped over the bed) rather than smaller squared baffles with loose wool fibres similar to a down duvet. This completely eliminates the need for any shaking to redistribute the content. The wool duvet feels heavier than the down duvet I am used to but it is a pleasant feeling as it folds around the sleeper in a similar way to a weighted blanket but without feeling oppressive. The tog ratings are 7-9 togs for the mediumweight and 10-12 togs for the heavyweight, not 10-14togs as stated on the listing. For additional information the filling is 375gsm on the mediumweight and 550gsm on the heavyweight. The duvets live up to their promises, are warm, breathable and very snug. I have always preferred natural materials and insulation and previously thought down was unbeatable but having tried wool, it definitely has the edge for temperature regulation.

The things we do for our loved ones, right? Here I am, a happily married man plodding his way through life and kipping each night under a comfortable duvet when my wife says "we should get a wool filled duvet". What? Why on earth would I want a wool filled duvet? I run hot during the winter for goodness sake the last thing I need is to be essentially wearing a woolen jumper to bed everyday! "Oh, but wool keeps you cool and warm" says the wife. Yes, of course it does I think... But guess what... I still buy one! I am glad I did! As I write this we've had some chilly weather in blighty and I have slept like a log, comfortable, warm but not hot and haven't woken up feeling like I've been sweating more than I do when thinking about paying the utility bills! The duvet itself has good a decent weight to it, enough to notice but not enough to feel like it is too much. There is a thickness to it which provides a great look when plumped up in a cover and feels generally well made. Our previous duvet was man-made-fiber and had moved within the cover, this is stitched in such a way that leads me to believe that shouldn't be an issue. Both my wife and I are very pleased to have swapped to a wool duvet, it warms up much quicker and offers a far better sleep then before, the best thing being that my wife, who usually runs cold, no longer feels the need to put cold feet on me to warm up - the duvet is doing it for me! The only downsides would be that, with it being a naturally filling, you will notice the smell of sheep on the duvet for a day or two, this is solved easily by airing it outside of hanging it up in a garage - personally, we weren't bother by it but some might be. The other being the noise the duvet makes, when new it can sound like a crisp packet being ruffled, again we didn't find it an issue and it never disturbed our sleep, we have found that after a week or two it has settled and put this down to the cover becoming softer over time, give it a good shake each day and it'll improve. In summary, I won't go back to another type of duvet, whilst I am yet to try this during summer temperatures, having gone back to a poly-filled duvet for a night when away for work, the different is incredible and one that is difficult to describe unless you try it yourself, you to may be as surprised as I am! I might even get an extra one for the guest bedroom for when the misses is snoring and I need some peace...

This is a really lovely Duvet. There is a slight rustling noise when it's moved, but it's not intrusive. There is a slight smell upon opening it.But within twenty four hours , it is gone It's lovely and Thick but I haven't noticed myself getting too hot.I bought this to replace an organic wool duvet, and honestly do far im very happy with it.

Extremely pleased with the quality of this duvet. I actually found the sheepy-lanolin smell very reassuring when I unwrapped it as it is much better than it smelling of nasty chemicals. I left the duvet to air for 48 hrs before using and now it hardly smells at all. The cotton cover is a very high quality, which I'm confident will keep all the wool safely contained inside. It only produces a slight rustle when moved, which reminds of the sound and feel of a high quality down duvet I used to have. It is actually a lot thicker and fluffier than I expected for a medium weight duvet. I've been sleeping in only a cotton sheet lately due to the hot weather so I was expecting to cook under the duvet the first time I used it. Surprisingly I slept very well and only woke up once. The duvet feels luxurious and cozy to lie in but also airy and breathable. I'm wondering if the reviews claiming it is too hot were maybe using synthetic or polycotton duvet covers. Using 100% cotton (or another breathable natural fibre) duvet covers and bed sheets will allow the wool to breathe properly. I'm also confident it will keep me warm and toasty in the winter months. I feel like I've grabbed a real bargain here, and it is great that it is manufactured in the uk using British wool.

For anyone considering making the switch to a wool duvet here’s what I’ve found. I personally prefer a fluffier duvet because the wool ones are a lot thinner but the benefit of this duvet is that it contours the body much better than synthetic duvets so what you loose in thickness you gain in snugness. This one heats up fast and stays really warm, too. So it’s pretty great. They’re a lot cheaper and more ethical than down too, which is good. The only thing I found with this duvet is that the cover crinkles. It’s supposed to be 100% cotton but I’m dubious because it sounds a bit plastic-y. Having said that, it might soften with age and it’s not so bad that I wouldn’t buy it - especially for the price.

Cannot rate this duvet highly enough. We needed a new duvet so I looked around for something that would be good all year round. Came across this wool one and thought I’d give it a go despite some reviews mentioning the initial odour. Can’t deny that out of the packaging it has a farmyard/cut grass aroma, but after a couple of days airing that completely disappears. Then after that, this duvet is the most wonderful, cosy, not too hot duvet you will ever have. The wool gives the duvet a little ‘weight’, which as we know from the increase in sales of weighted blankets is a good thing. But even more extraordinary is the experience of having a duvet that never moves yet remains completely comfortable, never needs shaking in the morning, just pulling straight. It’s almost miraculous! In summary, extremely comfortable, warm but not too hot, weighted but not too heavy. Expect some of the best sleep of your life! And if you’re tired of having to shake a duvet straight every day, this is the one for you! LOVE IT!

Perfect. Only just taken into use with hotter weather. A big improvement on the feather duvets. Is a bonus in the hot weather. Would thoroughly recommend.

I have purchased two of these duvets in kingsize within the last month. They are fabioulous value for money as I had spent a long time researching wool duvets and even purchased one from the wool room which I returned due to it having a rather disgusting smell. I am a hot person at night where as my husband is not. I absolutely loved this duvet. It does take a bit of getting used to as it does not have the thick full fluffy feeling of synthetic or feather duvets and when you first get under one you can feel a little cold, but then the wool magic happens. As the wool regulates temperature you end up quite happy in your own snugness!! Unfortunately as my husband is a cold person who requires a full winter duvet even in the height of summer, he did not enjoy this duvet as much as I did! The compromise was to purchase another duvet exactly the same and double up the duvet. This seemed not only cheaper than a divorce, but actually cheaper than most of the thick wool winter duvets and also has the added advantage of me being able to take one out for the three day heatwave.... otherwise known as British summertime! Although the two duvet I ordered came in the same packaging, there is a slight difference between the two. The first one that arrived has a soft cotton cover, where as the second one has a more satin appearance and is more crunchy and noisy than the first. Despite this difference both have identical labels and both covers are apparently 100% cotton. Not sure why there is this difference between the two! Hopefully after the second one has been abused by the kids for a while it should soften up a bit and is currently quite a good toddler deterrent as I can now hear them sneak onto the bed in the night. Honestly, the doubling up has worked a treat and although this has made the duvet a lot warmer, the wonder properties of wool are working their magic again and I know longer am up all night due to the extreme heat and hot sweats. Most importantly no longer resent my husband for making me suffer the nightly torture of the synthetic duvet hell that I have endured for the last 16 years and am slightly less cranky in the morning. Worth every penny.
