Will this box be able to function being placed on the floor against the wall, instead of being suspended above?

Mine is also against the wall. It's not quite as neat, as your shoe moulding pushes it about 1/2 inch from your trim, so you may see a peek of your stuff from the side in the back. But it stands up easily. I have mine that way because I have 4 cables (2 ethernet, fiber optic and land line) coming up from the basement and this box completely covers them up- no hole in the floor visible.
