Amazing console
I haven't had a 360 for years, I got one when they first launched (the old white model) then someone nicked off with it and I haven't been able to get one til now! Really impressed, I was a little uneasy about getting the new E model since it had only just come out and I expected a lot of bugs but it's decent and I don't have any need for the missing ports compared to the slim version. The only thing that annoys me is the fan is pretty damn loud when playing games off the disk. Installing the game onto the hard drive fixes this and it'll only be loud for a few minutes while the game loads but some games (like GTA V) don't work well if you install them so you have to combat the fan juddering along the whole time. The WiFi seemed to cut out every so often but that could just be my broadband, it's better now I wired it to the router. Other than that, I'm really happy, hence the 5 stars, it's an awesome system and a few little gripes are worth it for what you get, especially at such a good price.

Great technology but constant updates and cynical marketing kills it
Great fun when it works. Total pain in the ass when it has to install updates (constantly) and when the marketing team are so focussed on data capture and up-selling to kids that they put the player experience second.I remember the day when you turned on a games station and inside 10 seconds you were up and running - playing the game. Maybe its's just me, but that is the fundamental point isn't it - to play the game? Not to me sold to, up sold to Xbox Live, Gold etc.Countless times my 7 year old has turned on the Xbox eager to get stuck into a game and connect with his friends. Only to discover it needs yet another update. I wouldn't mind if this was a 20 second process, but no this could be 30 minutes of frustrated 7 year old time. Just want to play the game!!Big corporates only want to data capture, profile, tie you in, up sell to you, get your credit card details, get you on a monthly charge structure, sell your data to partner companies...etc.Yes the technology is great but the focus is no longer on the player experience its on how you're going to leverage that player to get as much money out of them as possible. Yes that's business in a cut throat sector, but it stinks. I've bought a games console to play games - if I wanted to be exploited I'd play internet games and accept the marketing accept as part and parcel of that sector.

Quality bargain
I thought this was a bargain and it arrived in perfect condition. My last console was the Nintendo Wii and definitely prefer the Xbox 360. The gaming quality is great; download time is fast, movements are really sensitive to the controller and the graphics are superb, especially compared to what I grew up playing in the nineties. The game availability and prices on Amazon alone is phenomenal It also looks really good in my living room.

Poorly packaged and not as described, but still happy with purchase.
The item is described as including a wired headset which was not provided. It was a small miracle that the Xbox itself survived in the post, given that it was basically stuffed into an old cardboard box which was too small, and one side was actually hanging wide open, save for a few bits of sticky tape. But aside from that the unit itself was in very good condition with no scratches or defects worth bothering about too much, and works perfectly. The seller might want to make it clear in the description that the One Month Free Xbox Live mentioned isn't actually in the form of a voucher, but is part of the deal with Microsoft when you enter your credit card details, i.e., you get one month free in any case so long as you're a new subscriber, as opposed to it being part of the deal from the seller. For the price you can't fall off, but I wouldn't recommend it to someone who has never set up a games console before because there's no instructions or original packaging of any kind. It would have been nice to also get the headset as described, but you don't need one to play on-line unless you enjoy being shouted at by 12 year olds, so it's not a huge problem. All in all, I'm happy to have saved quite a bit of cash, and it is the latest slimline version of the console with a very quiet fan, so I can't complain.

Old Model
I bought this for my 11 year old and was then told by my 14 year old that it was an older model than the one we'd bought for him a year earlier. The HDMI cable we'd already got doesn't fit as the sockets appear to be different at the back. Have had to order the one frequently bought with this model. Lesson learned. Glad we didn't leave it until Christmas before finding out.
