Persona 3 - Movie 1 [DVD]

Absolute cinema. Loved every second of it. Plus it came with a reversible cover.

Amazing little flick. While it's nothing new - i always thought having an Anime based off a game was slighly the wrong way around. I love Atlus though and recently gave Devil Survivor 2 the Anime a go - i was impressed by it's quality production values. After that I was suddenly pretty interested in Anime's based offa games. I got Disgaea and then P3 - I have all of the P4 anime on the shelf in waiting to be watched. I literally just finished watching this film it's a cool film based off a game. I'm totally fine with this being sub only. The art and story were great - I look forward to watching the other 3 films as well. As many have already said here - like the game, you'll like the Anime. I also think if you just enjoy Anime - this is a great watch and it's not entierly improbable that you'd like to try a Persona game after seeing this. I need to try Daganronpa next!!! By the way the other game animes i mentioned were also all solid and worthwhile watches imo. P3 movie 1 is a cool film ... (I dig the reversible cover art.) Good times. 8/10 Thanks. ".,.,^

Amazing film.Having played the game I can see some of the differences but it didn't matter. It was very well done from the pace to the length. I can't wait for the others to come out physically. It's a shame it took 3 years to get it on DVD. The other thing that disappointed me was that there was no english dub, I actually thought there would be since it took so long to get here. It doesn't really matter but an option would have been good. Also the menu is just silent, no instrumental of the amazing music from the series, there's not even movement, I would have added something, even if it was just the background of the picture moving -_- It's the little things that could have made it way better and worth the wait. That's all. After watching this, I think I'll search for my PSP and play the game again.

The Movie is great however from the other reviews and the price I was under the impression this was the collectors edition with CD and Artbook this was sadly not the case. As such I feel this item is over priced.

Does this have English Subs? Yes! So if you're looking to get this box set, you can! Persona 3 is based off of a PlayStation 2 video game. Which has turned into a game series with different main protagonist all in the same universe. This is where the journey pretty much begins as odd as that is. Persona 1 and 2 don't seem to be connected as far as Persona fans know. Persona 3 is a movie about a student going to high school abroad after his parents died. While traveling to his dorm, he comes across an odd change in setting. As soon as the clock strikes midnight he enters into what is called the dark hour. A space between the real world and the supernatural. He must fight along side his high school friends in order to overcome the dark hour. Not only could it threaten his life and the friends around him but the entire world is at stake. This is just part one of the MC's journey in a multi-movie series. It is completely worth it to buy every one. Not only is this a collectors but a dream come true for Persona fans to see Minato/Makoto Yuki on the big screen

無印、FES、P3Pと何周もした原作ファンなのですが、感想を一言で言えば『進化』。 文句のつけようがないクオリティと再現度で、OPの時点で感動しました。 あの懐かしいOP（フルの劇場版アレンジ）が始まった瞬間の興奮は、まだ見てない原作ファンに是非味わってもらいたいです。 まず、細部まで見入る美術・演出面。 ゲームで同じみのイベントや校内、街のBGMで原作気分に浸れます。（むしろ、引き込まれる） 特に月光館学園や巖戸台分寮の建物・部屋の構造が、ゲームと違う角度で見られて新鮮ですらありました。 ところどころに出るコミュキャラ（何人かはセリフも有り）やよく行った店など、プレイ済みならではの発見も。 主人公がオルフェウスを初召喚するシーンは、原作のちょっと怖いけどカッコイイ雰囲気を見事に再現。 タルタロスのバトルシーンも、ゲーム完全再現したと言ってもいいレベルでした。 出来る限り武器で戦い、ここぞと言う時にペルソナを使う。BGMはもちろんベイベベイベ。 ベルベッドルームのシャッターのような壁の模様も、本当にすごかった。 主人公の返答がゲームの選択肢と同じで、「これにしたわ〜」と思うシーンもあったり。 どこを見てもスタッフのこだわりや意気込み、誠意のようなものがひしひし伝わってきます。 次にストーリー関連。 オープニング〜風花救出までが描かれている第一部。 雰囲気を再現しつつ、、名前を持った主人公・結城理（ゆうき まこと）の物語がきちんと描かれていました。 最初はあまり目立ちませんが、風花救出のシナリオが大幅にアレンジされています。 理の性格は、まさに「どうでもいい」毎日をなんとなく生きてきた印象。 しかし、風花をさりげなく助けるなど、ただ投げやりなわけでもないので不快に思う方は少ないはず。 ゆかりのキツイ発言や順平のお気楽や嫉妬など、最初のギクシャクした感じも原作通り。 一部原作よりもキツイことをゆかりが理に言うシーンがあるので、苦手な人はちょっと注意かも？ そこからが風花救出時のアレンジ展開とも言えるので、理の活躍的にはグッジョブ！だと思います。 風花のエピソードも大分肉付けされてるので、二年組が大活躍です。先輩組は原作並だったかと。 ですが、アニメならではの表情の多さで各キャラにとても深みが出ていると思います。 声優さんの演技は言うまでもありません。主人公が予想より高い声でしたが、理としてすぐ慣れました。 原作をリスペクトし、ファンの期待に応えている素晴らしい作品です。 少なくとも、自分はファンとしてこれだけのクオリティで再現してくれて本当に嬉しい。ただただ嬉しい。 P4に先を越されて悔しい思いをしながらも、ずっと待っていた甲斐がありました。（P4もクリア済） 褒めすぎと思われるかもしれませんが、自分は本当に不満なところがなかったのです。もう大満足。 気になった点を強いてあげるなら、理が思った以上に仲間に無関心で冷たく見えたことくらいでしょうか。 ですが、その理の成長や変化が劇場版の見所の一つのようで納得しました。二部以降がとても楽しみです。 ここに書く事ではないかもしれませんが、まだまだ止まらないペルソナ展開に期待。 P5ももちろん楽しみですが…今こそP3のゴールデン版を出す時ではないでしょうか！ そして、劇場版スタッフにはこれからもこのクオリティを維持してもらいたいです。 それでは、ここまで読んで下さってありがとうございました。長文失礼しました。

Before purchasing this film you need to understand that this is a movie based on persona 3, it isn't a comprehensive overview like P4 the animation. Whether that bothers you or not if subjective, but I think it made this film much better than the P4 animation. This movie is about as good as any adaption gets. The pace doesn't feel rushed, it flows well and humour is lightly sprinkled into the story much like the game. The movie only follows the main plot so most of the side social links are excluded (not sad to see hidetoshi go) and the dark nature of the p3 plot is amplified. As well as this the symbolic elements are moved to center stage at times. These (in my oppinion) are all good changes for a film adaptation, and allow the movie to become its own thing, rather than just another persona spin off. My one real gripe with the film was that if you hadn't previously played a persona game (which you don't have to to understand the movie) things can get confusing, especially if you to aren't into symbolic and psychological films. That being said, I thoroughly enjoyed this movie, and absolutely recommend it to any persona fan or anyone who enjoys dark, deep and symbolic movies. Overall, a great movie.

Much like the game, this first part of a span of movies does an excellent job to portray the story of Persona 3. Furthermore you receive an interesting interpretation of Minato (or as the movie refers to him as Makoto) and how he chooses to interact with his fellow SEES members and others around him. As far as quality goes, no doubt the visual and audio quality is up to acceptable standards. A note that I would like to add is that it's Eng Sub, some people who are not fully informed may not know this, and it's always good to at least put that out. I would like to add more about the movie, but if you've played the game, I'd rather let the story unfold upon itself to the viewer, and if you are new to the Persona series, you can expect and excellent treat tosses your way.
