Solved the problem of home link in the car not working with the garage door opener
I could not get my garage door to sync with the home link in the car. (I am not new to home link and have used it successfully many times with numerous garage door openers.) This compatibility bridge solved the connectivity problem. It acts as a "go between" that receives the signal from the car's home link, and sends it to the receiver on the door opener. For lack of a better analogy, the home link in the car could not "talk" directly to the door opener without this device to "translate" the signal. It was easy to install (just plug it in), sync the units and you are done.

Garage works (again)
Itโs annoying that I need to add this extra item to make the garage work, but it works. So Iโll just be happy. We had a 2022 Camry that had an accident. So we went with a 2023 Lexus and no matter what we tried. We could never get the garage door to open. Which was annoying as both cars are new, both cars are Toyota. After being annoying with the remotes for awhile I finally decided. $35. Just try it. And within 3 minutes. Homelink now works with our car. Which is more than fantastic. Iโm not sure how rolling codes and such work, donโt care. We have a 5 year old garage opener and a 1 year old car. Should work. Doesnโt. But this was a simple fix.

Does the job but can be frustrating to setup and use and here's why
The concept is simple- the old Homelink mirror that is neatly and conveniently integrated into our auto-dimming car mirrors, doesn't speak the latest "Security+ 2.0" language that our newer garage door openers and gate operators speak. So here comes Liftmaster with a neat solution. It speaks both old Homelink mirror and current Security+ 2.0 languages! It is happy to listen for your Homelink mirror button and then it simply transmits in Security+ 2.0 to the opener and everything is supposed to work great! And basically it does but there are two things you should know BEFORE you decide use this. 1. Setup - People who are educated and think they are clever, like me, think they can deviate from the setup steps. Do not do this. The remote that comes in this kit looks EXACTLY like a regular remote- IT IS NOT. It is ONLY used to PROGRAM the Homelink Mirror to send commands to the 855LM. Once the mirror is programmed, that is the ONLY remote that will trigger the 855LM to pass an open or close command on to the opener. In other words, clever guys like me don't want to climb back into our car and press the Homelink button (partially due to Item 2 below) and instead, we just use that "remote" that comes in the kit. We start to program our opener, hit the remote button (not the mirror button) and, nothing happens. You MUST use the mirror button to join the 855LM to your opener. SUGGESTION: Liftmaster should make this MUCH more clear. This caused me a lot of frustration. I finally found a support thread, one single post, BURIED in Chamberlain's website that said that the remote that comes in this kit is programming the LM55 to the mirror ONLY. It will not trigger the LM55 to open or close anything, like a regular remote. 2. Homlink mirror range SUCKS. It is VERY SHORT. Worse, they are slow so you need to hold the button an annoyingly long time. So much for the $700 we plunked down for the auto-dimming, learning remote mirror. I find myself needing to keep the original remotes in my car for when the weather outside doesn't let the anemic Homelink mirror signal get through. Even from 10 feet away. This causes anger and is unreliable. And folks like me over-react and re-setup everything only to find the same poor performance. ALL THAT CONSIDERED, it does work and it is not expensive.

Waste of money and time.
Basically, it is worthless. I bought it, because I read that it would allow older garage door remotes to work with a newer Chamberlain garage door opener. It doesn't. It is supposed to allow older cars equipped with homelink to work with the new Chamberlain. It doesn't. I've wasted probably 18 hours of my life on this piece of crap. Ironically, it only took a few hours to install the new opener. The Chamberlain opener I bought functions fine, but it sucks that you have to buy a new keypad and none of the universal remotes I purchased less than a year ago work with the new Chamberlain opener. If you buy a new Chamberlain opener, none of your old remotes can be trained to operate it. If you buy this bridge hoping it will make the Chamberlain opener backward compatible with the homelink buttons in your vehicle or your older handheld remotes, you will end up frustrated and disappointed.

Inexpensive solution to an irritating problem
Worked perfectly. We are in the process of moving into a new home, and the remotes for the dual garage door openers would not program to the Homelink buttons in my car. I was worried that I was going to have to spend a several hundred dollars to upgrade the Homelink system in my car, but then I found out about this little beauty on Chamberlain's site. I was about to order it when I thought, I should check Amazon first, and I saved ten bucks getting it here. Super easy to program. I just used the included remote to program my Homelink #1 and #2 buttons (one at a time). Next I plugged the Compatibility Bridge into an outlet near the garage door openers. Then to program the first door I pressed the learn button on the opener itself (it was a yellow button on the back of the motor body), and within 30 seconds I pressed the #1 Homelink button in my car and held it until I saw the garage door opener light flash (and heard 2 clicks). Repeated those steps with the second garage door opener and button in my car, and then tested both buttons to ensure the doors opened (they did). EDIT: I have since programmed the third button in my car to open both garage doors at once. Now I can open the left door with button 1, the right door with button 2, and both doors simultaneously with button 3. Still working great after 1 year.

Works with Liftmaster 8500 and 2005/2006 Jeeps
I purchased this to help setup the on-board door opener in our vehicles. Due to the age of our vehicles compared to the recent door opener we put in, we couldnโt program the on-board openers. This product resolved that problem. We have a Liftmaster 8500 wall mount opener. Our vehicles are a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee and 2006 Jeep Commander. I mounted the device in an outlet near the door and both vehicles programmed on the first try. Now we have our Jeeps programmed for all the garage doors we have so that either Jeep can park in either place. This device made it so we could continue using old technology with new, itโs out of the way and does what itโs supposed to. I anticipate using the same device in our next home as well. I would buy again.

Worked for one month, then simply stopped
24 Aug 2026 Edit: after one month of use, it just stopped working. I reprogrammed it and it seems clear that the issue is with the repeater itself. I've reached out to Chamberlain directly and will update this review if they are willing to replace the defective unit. Repeater was kept in a climate controlled environment and with no moisture near outlet. 5 July 2026: Worked just as advertised. Used it to update Homelink access for 2006 Porsche 987 Boxster. Doesnโt interfere with more modern Homelink systems either. I plugged device in with clear line of sight but about 10โ of distance from garage door motor. Instructions were crystal clear.

Solved My Problem
For years, we have battled with one car working well with our Homelink garage door opener but other cars not working well at all. I was skeptical that this would work but ordered it, plugged it in and it works perfectly. In our case, it seems to work like a signal extender. If your garage door doesn't work or only works sporadically, order this, try this and see if it makes a difference. If not, you can always return it. Highly recommended!

Impressively simple and works
I have 2 cars with older Homelink systems built in that will not speak to my modern garage door heads. So I bought this product and voila now both cars open the garage doors. What's nice is that I can set up each garage door for any button. So both cars can open both doors individually. The training is no different than how you set up your garage door opener now: use the provided new remote to train the car, press the train button on the garage door head and press the button in the car you just trained. The head learns the code magically via this product and the garage door opens.

Not a useful product at all
The receiver has extremely poor sensitivity, you have to be pretty much right on top of it to pick up the signal from the in-car Homelink transmitter. Tried with with two different vehicles, both worked equally poorly. Not worth the hassle of returning, tossed it in the trash.
