Q: How much heat can it with stand?

You can't really cook in on it. On electric ranges, one is better letting it cool off..no direct heat. Taking dishes out of an oven works well. I would not try using it on a gas range as a trivet or heat diffuser. Rule of thumb for me, 350 degrees or less

Q: Are these thin ? I am using it as a placemat for hot food.

Yes, it's 0.03" thick. But the heat resistant is between -40°F and 446°F. It could be used as placemat.

Q: Are these mats rolled for shipment, or folded for shipment?

They are folded. The material is really pliable. When I layed it out it had no fold marks. It was flat from the start.

Q: how do you smooth out the folds? Suggestion: Probably better delivered in a roll.

1. Lay flat the mat, put something heavy on it for few days. 2. Wiping it with a hot cloth or boiling it in hot water for 2-4 minutes, then dry it naturally.
