Edwin Jagger Top Class British Shaving Tools
Surprised by some of the less than enthusiastic reviews left for this shaving jug....Anyone familiar with Edwin Jagger will know this is a top quality British brand and this shaving bowl works and looks a treat. Others have said it's not wide enough? Not quite sure what they mean as it's not only wide but quite deep as well! The finish of the mug is top class with a lovely black gloss glaze and my only criticism is that it's such a shame the Edwin Jagger logo isn't bigger on the front as it's very small.... I have my bowl on the bathroom shelf beside my EJ DE Razor and EJ Badger brush hanging on a chrome shaving stand and they all match and look really well together. If you use the bowl for creams or just to work up a lather from soap then you can use the bowl for storing your tubes of shaving creams and cut healing gel etc when not in use, it keeps everything tidy on the shelf. I've ordered some EJ Sandalwood soap refills 65g designed to fit this bowl and looking forward to trying those. Some may think £22 is a lot of money for something like this, it is! But I spent days looking around at shaving bowls online (some of which are absolutely disgusting in design and colour) I searched ebay and second hand bowls were going for crazy money and I could find nothing remotely suitable or with any degree of class! Getting rather fed up, I bit the bullet and just ordered it... when it arrived I knew I had made the right choice but was annoyed to see the price had been reduced to £19 so emailed customer services and as a one off gesture they refunded the difference which I appreciated. The bowl can be held by the handle, or you can cup it in your hand which feels safer as it could slip if your hands are wet or soapy.Highly recommended if you enjoy the classic safety razor experience as I do, it's these little things that finish the experience off and if looked after should last you a lifetime!

Pricey, but worth it.
Although a little expensive, I think this product deserves five stars. The construction of the mug is very rugged, and I expect to have it for a long time. The ridges on the inside help to produce a lather more easily, and the button handle means that the thing is almost impossible to drop if slipped between two fingers. If you grip your brush nearer the bristles, it is possible to whip up a lather without rattling the handle on the sides of the mug. Perhaps the mug could be less expensive, but consider why you are buying it. If, like me, you like nice things and find traditional shaving almost therapeutic, then the slightly steep price is irrelevant; after all, there are cheaper and less satisfying ways of shaving. In conclusion, the design of this item has been well thought out and it suits my needs perfectly, plus it looks good next to my other shaving stuff and is made by an English company. As I like to say: buy well, buy once.

good quality as can be expected from this brand. Used their blade holder for years....
This was a replacement for one thrown away by accident. I have their range and although this one is darker than the previous one, it's still of good solid quality.

Really build up a foam!
After switching to safety razor, shaving is now a pleasure.Part of the experience when I'm not too rushed, is getting shaving brush going to build up a foam.I was attracted to this item because it has some raised ridges on the bottom, which I thought might help get air into my brush movements - well yes, they do!Its actually an attractive item sitting there generally - it looks classy (was worried black would be too much, nope). With thumb over the lug handle and fingers underneath, you can hold this securely even with wet hands.I like to heat it by putting hot water in it while preparing, then empty this into sink just before getting the brush and soap moving - think it speeds up the foaming process plus the extra warm water will be used a minute or so later!Although I felt myself being a bit extravagant, it's a quality bit of kit you'll use and the ridges help the brush good produce lather.

It is nice but overall unnecessary
I’ve been DE shaving for 5 months, and I’m well aware of the long term cost saving (and environmental) benefits of shaving like an old man. Some of you may know about RAD (Razor Acquisition Disorder) and PAD (Product Acquisition Disorder) – I seem to suffer from the latter, so I’ve gone ahead and purchased this shaving mug^.Prior, I’d been making my shaving lather in a £2 ceramic bowl from Sainsburys. When I make a lather in this mug which costs 10 times the price, I really don’t see any difference in the effort and quality of the lather. It’s worth noting that there are 3 indents in the inside base, which help generate lather quicker. For aesthetics, the mug does look nice. It’s wide enough to generate lather without your brush clanging against the side. It’s comfortable to hold and easy to grip. When I’ve finished my shave, I store in Razor(s) and Cream (Tube) in the mug – so it helps keep the place looking tidy.PRO TIP: Warm the cup before you make the lather because it does retain heat nicely. I just add hot water, then let my shaving brush soak while I have a shower, and the I have a nice warm mug to make lather with.

Edwin Jagger Mug
This is a fantastic Shaving mug and is available in Black or Ivory. It is just the right size for taking the smaller pucks such as Edwin Jagger refills or the Arko fits just fine.I keep an Arko soap in mine at all times, but great for mixing creams from a pot or tube. I have the other colour for that.Looks classy too and would look good in any Bathroom. An excellent purchase as far as i am concerned. Treat youself you won't be sorry!

Excellent design and capacity
Classic colour and well made. I recommend this one, foams up nicely and holds a decent amount, enough for me to do my whole scalp and torso. Feels like one of those product you need only buy once. Unless you are similar to me and more than likely drop on a hard surface in a few months. I knew I shouldn't of got rid of the carpet in my bathroom...

Look no further - probably the best product of its kind on Amazon you can get today
Can't fault it. Has a quality look and feel about it. It is perfect for its intended use and looks the part when not in use, which is nice because I don't put it away in a cabinet and it is always in full view. It's also just the right size to put my Taylor of Old Bond Street 150g Sandalwood Shaving Cream Bowl (also available on Amazon) in the top, which conserves shelf space.

La compraría de nuevo!
Tamaño ideal. Si dejas remojando la brocha en agua caliente y generas la espuma con el tazón caliente conserva excelente la temperatura tibia de la espuma. Fácil de limpiar.

Really didn't need
Purchased bowl when started to shave with safety blades. Thought I really needed this for the soap. After awhile the gears slowly started to turn and realized the soaps I want to try come in a container. I am probably violating some unwritten shaving law that only a heathen would use the soap container as the bowl. Would recommend putting the cost of the bowl towards the cost of a really good brush. This bowl is well made, easy to clean, and just the right size for my hands.

ottima ciotola

Beautiful, Functional, Sturdy Mug by Edwin Jagger
I use this mug with every shave, first to soak my brush and then to whip up my lather. I don't keep a soap stored in it; rather, I load the wet brush from a separate bowl containing whichever soap I'm using, then transfer the brush to this mug. I have found this to be very handy in creating a great, thick, creamy lather, because it has little ridges at the bottom which help to incorporate air into the soap. Also, it retains heat fairly well; I fill it with hot water to soak my brush, then place it in the sink, also filled with hot water. By the time I get out of the shower, the brush is softened and the ceramic mug is pretty well heated. I have often found (though not every time) that by the time I get to my 3rd pass, the lather is still warm!I also love the handle on this thing. You can hold it by the convenient handle, or the bottom of the mug in the palm of your hand;either way is comfortable and easy to do.I am always very careful when handling it, but I know from experience that it is very well constructed and sturdy. While I have never dropped it, per se, there was one time I was getting ready to shave and was getting all of the various gear and items out of my wardrobe in preparation. My wife was asleep on the bed, but angled from one corner at the top of the bed to the opposite corner on the foot of the bed, leaving me a nice space to pile up my shaving gear as I picked out my soap. Well... my wife stirred in her sleep and kicked the mug right off the bed, I should add we have a VERY high bed, down to the hardwood floor. I panicked and picked up the razors, soaps and my beautiful mug; while one of my razors busted into two pieces, the mug was perfectly fine! There wasn't a chip, scratch or crack anywhere in the thing! It had survived a 3 foot drop onto a very hard hardwood floor and didn't have any damage whatsoever. While I would not advise testing its durability like I did, I can tell you that it is of a very sturdy, quality porcelain construction.I should also add that this piece was smaller than I was expecting. I was a little disappointed at first, expecting some giant thing. I have found after using it for the last 6 months that it is the perfect size; easy to hold, doesn't take up too much space in the cabinet and small enough to pack for a trip, which I have often done.Lastly, this is a beautiful piece. It's a very deep, inky, ebony black. It's shape is attractive, while at the same time very utilitarian; it feels like it was made to fit specifically in MY hand! The fit and finish of it is beautiful, as all Edwin Jagger products are. This is truly a piece that could last a lifetime and more. I highly recommend to anyone looking for a great shaving mug. There are cheaper ones out on the market, but I doubt that anything less expensive than this would have survived the fall from my bed; so in my mind, this was money well spent.
