Armor SX5000 WB Natural-Look Penetrating Water-Based Silane Siloxane Concrete Sealer for Concrete, Brick, Pavers, and Natural Stone - 5 Gallon

We put down concrete pavers 15 years ago and didn't seal them. Wish we had. They do wear down and now the tiny rocks that are embedded have started to show. Recently we re-leveled them, put down polymeric sand and decided we needed to seal them. I did a lot of research on doing a protective coating (which lasts 2-3 years and is cheaper) or a penetrating sealant (which lasts 7-10 years and is more expensive) and this was the obvious winner! Our local hardware stores didn't carry it in stock so we had to order it. Amazon's price was comparable to the hardware stores. It was easy to spray on (we used a cheap lawn and garden pump sprayer that cannot be reused due to the solvent that can wear down joints) and, though I bought the split roller they recommended to back brush, you could have used a regular sponge to remove the pooling product. DON'T USE A BROOM if you put down polymeric sand, it will remove the sand. We applied it early in the morning and it went down easily. You need to do two coats, but apply the second while it's still wet. They have great instructions. Over all, we are completely pleased with the product! It does darken the color, but only slightly. The finish is matte and you can't tell a difference on concrete pavers. We had the sprinklers run 24 hrs later and could definitely tell where we had lower spots but the water puddled. Great product and would choose again!

I put in a new large double driveway with slightly lighter coloring in the mix about 6 years ago and wanted to maintain the new looking appearance of the driveway as it is a main visual element looking at our house from the street. I did considerable research on sealers and every contractor and company has their own favorite. I also wanted something that did not have to be redone every year or two in order to minimize ongoing maintenance. This product stated it has a life of 7 to 10 years which fit my criteria. I read others reviews, contacted the manufacturer with questions and was satisfied. I used SX5000 WB and purchased a quality backpack SOLO sprayer for application. I applied it to my open face (light brush finish) concrete driveway and patio closely following the recommendations for preparation and application. After three years it has both met and exceeded my expectations and looks great. No dark mold, or scaling, is clean looking, attractive, and quickly shed water for the first year and a half to two. That was anticipated to lessen per the manufacturer though. It still sheds water and drys faster than normal driveways without this sealant but not as it did the first year or two. As I over purchased what I needed and had an unopened five gallons left over, I then offered and ended up doing about half of my neighbors driveway. The difference is so obvious comparing the cleaned and sealed section of his compared to the original portion. Now three years later, I just did a light re-coating on mine again and anticipate water will bead and run off as it originally did. Checking with the manufacturer, they said this was OK as long as it was a very light application as the original sealant is still in the substrate and working. They were super helpful and knowledgeable each time. Lastly, with a good sprayer, and getting the prep work done, and following the instructions, super easy and quick to apply. So, I’m sold, driveway looks great, and this is probably the last time I’ll have to do this. Jack - Rainy Washington

My slab concrete patio had a bit of age on it and fallen leaves from the surrounding trees stained it terribly and quickly. I seemed to always be too busy to consider sealer products in the past so just lived with a stained patio in-between spring cleaning. Having just retired, I did some research on sealer types and product reviews and chose the Foundation Armor DOT approved product. It features a longer lasting (higher quality) base than many but did cost more than others as well. I pressure washed/bleached and rinsed the patio and let dry for 2 days before the day of application (doing my best to keep leaves off it's surface). On the day of application, the weather report predicted rain in the late evening or next day. The instructions said to apply the sealer in the evening so that it wouldn't dry in the hot sun too quickly. I phoned the company's help line and had no problem speaking with tech support. The nice fellow understood my situation and assured me it would be ok to apply the sealer that morning before things got too warm and would likely dry well enough before the predicted rains. Application was not difficult at all. I used a garden sprayer as prescribed, brushed out any "puddling", and then applied a second coat while the first was still drying. The first coat soaked into the substrate well. The second coat less so... It's obvious the second coat is used to produce an even saturation of the substrate/concrete. It dried nicely and did not really change the cleaned appearance of the patio. It's been several weeks and the result, to me, is fantastic. Leaves falling on the patio do not stain it to any significant degree. And, promise, my leaf blower removes the solid leaves from the surface MUCH easier and faster than I recall. We'll have to see how long the protection lasts... for now, I extremely pleased with the product and result! Highly recommend it!

I have a 15 year old driveway that I'm sure hasn't been sealed since it was made. I followed all directions to the T and ended up with two gallons left over. I think i started to rush because I was worried I would run out. My recommendation is plan how much concrete you will cover with each gallon and stick to that plan. I have a 3 car garage driveway and a front patio area. A 5 gallon container was more than enough, but i should have done a thicker coat for sure. I estimated about 1200 sq ft. Worked great in a 1 gallon garden sprayer. I was concerned about darkening as others have complained about it, but I didn't have the problem so far. The darker pictures are about 48 hours after application during a light rain shower. You can see how the sidewalk (which I did not spray) is much darker than my driveway and has soaked up the rain. The pictures look like I have darkening, but it really doesn't stick out that much. The biggest difference I noticed is the driveway doesn't get dark in the rain like my neighbors - mainly because the water is beading on my driveway and not soaking it up like theirs. So if you don't mind a little color difference when it rains from neighbors, this is great. It doesn't bother me. The other pictures are from the sprinklers. You can see the water beading. I'll be curious what it does in the snow come this winter and during a heavy rain storm. But so far i'm pleased as it clearly is beading the water. And it is not slick when it beads. If this product is still around say in 5 years - it says it should last 10 but I didn't do a thick enough coat and may have to do it sooner, plus I get a lot of snow - i will use again. I called tech support about the extra 2 gallons and sprayed a 3rd coat on within 24 hours of the first 2 coats. Didn't seem to bother anything. I can't guarantee it helped either, but they said it would be okay and probably better to do it within 24 hours before it completely cured versus waiting a few months, or even a few years to spray the extra coats on. By that time it may have cured too much. The directions say it lasts about a year in the container after opening. So I didn't want to run the risk of keeping the two gallons and wasting it. I took the risk and sprayed the third layer on and it seemed to work fine. It didn't puddle much and seemed to soak it in just like the first 2 layers. This is why I recommend you plan out how much concrete you will spray with each gallon. If I had done that then I wouldn't have rushed as much and ended up with extra gallons. Also, have your foam roller handy if you do need to roll out some puddles. But I found the leaf blower to be a good option for that as well. haha Lastly, i'm wondering if some o the darkening issues people experience are more from shade versus sunshine driveways. My driveway is partly shaded and I noticed it took much longer to dry, obviously. The shady spots definitely seemed darker, but it went away completely after about 48 hours and once the sunshine hit it in the morning. So for those of you with darkening issues, i'm curious if it was a shaded driveway or sunny. If sunny, then maybe the surface temp was too hot. If shaded, then maybe the surface temp was too cool relative to the ambient temp. I'm not sure, but if you have partly shaded driveways, then i would call tech support and pick their brain on it before use. It worked fine for me, but I had about 80 hours of dry, low humidity weather before I got any rain. If you live in a humid climate and have a shaded driveway, then it may take longer to dry and you may end up with darkening...maybe. It was nerve racking using this product as I saw people complain about darkening, but overall it worked great for me and it was probably the highest rated sealant. So it's worth spending a little more money that other sealants.

Applied this to seal our concrete and it works exactly as expected. It goes on smoothly, provides great coverage, and leaves a perfect natural finish without changing the look of the concrete. Highly recommend this sealer for a clean, professional job.

Applied to flagstone a few weeks ago and it is great. In my case due to the patios uneven surface water does collect in certain areas so I use a leaf blower to spread it. A+ results. Hardly any darkening of flagstones definitely tolerable.

This stuff is GREAT. A little expensive, but you obviously get what you pay for. I had bought a small sample of this product about 5 years ago and sprayed it on a small section of my concrete driveway for a test. Over the years that area stayed free of mildew and stains from oak tree pollen while I had problems with staining on the rest of the driveway. I bought two 5 gallon buckets for the rest of my driveway. I applied it with a 2 gallon garden sprayer. It went on easily and has made a tremendous improvement in my driveway's appearance. I will quickly make up the cost by cutting pressure washing costs significantly. I highly recommend this product.

The material comes in a 5 gallon bucket that is easy to open and manage. After pressure washing a couple of days before, I applied it to my driveway with a basic garden sprayer they sell at the big box stores, and then rolled it with a 3/8 inch nap roller to ensure good coverage and remove any puddles. It dries quite quickly - in about an hour in our desert climate, and once it is dry, you can't see any difference. I did two coats. Although the driveway looks the same, the results were great - water beads up and does not penetrate. This stuff is not cheapest sealer you can buy, but I got better results than I've gotten from any of the less expensive sealers they sell at the big box stores. Very happy with the results.
