Used it for Chashu
I didn't have any sake on-hand, so I used this as a substitute for sake. It worked very well - even better in my opinion. The Chashu turned out very flavorful and full of umami. Recommend.

Interesting drink but expensive for two servings
I love to try different international foods and had never tried Amazake, so I was happy to order it and give it a try. The package contains enough concentrate for two servings, at over 200 calories per serving, which is more than a can of soda even though there's no sugar added. I thought about making only one serving, but the instructions were on how to prepare the whole package and I thought it would be messy to do otherwise. I emptied the whole 7 ounce (200 g) package into a pan and added 200 ml (a little less than 7 ounces) of water and stirred to combine and then brought it to a simmer on the stove. Once it got bubbly, I turned off the heat and poured some into a small coffee cup - probably about 6 ounces. I could still see bits of rice in the mix, which made it kind of half thin porridge/half drink. I had had a very stressful day and was feeling a bit tired and wound up, and just sipping the warm drink slowly settled me down and made me feel a little better. I had been drinking tea all afternoon without a similar effect. I did find the Amazake a bit sweet, almost cloying, after the first few sips, but finished the cup. When the remainder cooled, I put it in a plastic container with a tight fitting lid and put it in the fridge. I think I had about 8 ounces left, which I think I might divide into a couple smaller servings and maybe thin a bit more with some water. This was fun to try but at nearly $10 for the package, it comes out to about $5 a serving. A nice treat but certainly not an every day drink.

NG :(
I love amazake. I miss it at temples on New Year's. I wanted to love this. It tastes like it was made with tap water. (I have a multitude of filtered waters at home, which taste clear and great. It was not my additive.) I wish it tasted better... Will attempt to cook it from scratch now
