Fantastic book
Love this book. Perfect for any child starting school. It explains the transition into school for children that may be worried or need a little bit of reassurance. My child loved this book. He canโt wait to give it to his brother before he starts. Itโs a brilliant book. Iโve bought it twice and even given it as a gift.

SETTING OUT
We read this lovely, inclusive and positive story to our own children just as they were about to start on their education journey. They loved it. Now, SATs, GCSEs, A-Levels and degrees later, the youngest grandchild has just had it read to her by her parents She loved it. Who knows what lies ahead on her education journey...but this book has been a great starting point.

Great for children starting in reception
I bought this book for my niece as she was starting school and she really enjoyed reading a book which reflected her new routine and chapter in her life. It encouraged her to then talk about her day and offer new information which she hadnโt previously given. My only criticism is that it is a bit dated but the theme of the book was well received and also went on to discuss the rest of the school year which other school related books have not.

highly recommend
This is a great book. It walks through the first term - the first week is day by day, then by week until a Christmas play at the end of term. Then holidays! It is very sensitively written, it follows a group of 6 or so children and what they do - each is different and it reassures your child that they don't need to be able to do everything; for example, one can read, the others cannot. Some like swimming, one "thinks about getting in the pool". Sometimes they are happy, sometimes sad, sometimes grumpy. Sometimes the teacher has a bad day too. It also has things like the children being shown where the loo is, and where to hang their coats, which will be comforting to children who might worry about the unknown. The only thing is that it doesn't mention uniform, but then again, this isn't always applicable. Highly recommend.

Amazing book to read to preschoolers
My son had worries and concerns as did I about how he would settle etc. This book gives so much reassurance and is a little introduction step into the world of schooling for littlens. After reading this book my son was soo excited to start school in sept

Iโd buy new next time
Great timeless book great for talking about starting school to make child comfortable. I bought a used copy which was classed as very good- but I would say not, there was filth (potentially blood all over the cover and inside Iโve had to antibac it all) there was a tear (which Iโve just repair with tape) and there was a sticker label with name and address of previous child as this book was obviously recieved free to them from Dolly Parton imagination charityโฆ

Makes a great gift for new school-starters
Even though this was published in the 1980s, it still reflects school life in reception today. Iโve bought this for two friends whose children were starting school and they both said it helped ease their childrenโs nerves of what to expect at school. As a Year 1 teacher myself, I find the content is very child-friendly and inclusive, as well as still showing the way that schools (in England at least) operate in Reception.

Would be good but unfortunately contains religious material
This book would be good for a child starting school, but unfortunately it assumes that children are religious and are going to be attending a religious school (for a specific religion). This makes it unsuitable for families who are not using a religious school or do not belong to that specific religion.
